does anyone here know the differences between these two? Which one has better acoustic piano sound. My choices are one of these 2 or the hp207. Will either of the rd's have as good a sound as the hp207? Please advise.

thanks,
Bill

The RD-700SX has the very finest keyboard
that Roland offers. The newer RD-700GX
and HP-207 have a keyboard of more recent
design, but it is not a fine as the older
RD-700SX action, in my opinion.

Gyro,

You mean that the 700GX is a step back (action) from the 700SX ?

Do you know how the 700SX compares to high end cabinet-type DPs such as HP207 (sound and action) ?

Regards.

Geof

I don't think so.

Most people in this forum consider the keyboard of the HP-207 which the the new RD700 GX also has (88-key weighted keyboard PHA II “Ivory Feel” with Escapement) as the best available at the market at this moment opposed to the second best: KAWAI AWA PRO wooden keyboard and the YAMAHA GH3 Natural Wood.

Is this opinion based on any kind of first hand experience or real-world use?

I tried both keyboards briefly in a store,
and I liked the older design better.

You were lucky, our stores haven't received any of the new keyboards yet.

The RD700-GX and HP207 (PHAII), imo, have significantly better action than RD700-SX (PHA-I). And the ivory-feel and escapement make them the best keys that Roland has to offer.

I played the RD700-GX briefly at NAMM and Musikmesse. I also played the HP-207 for several hours at both trade-shows and at a store. And I had access to an RD700-SX for several weeks. I think the new models are superior.

As for sound, that is more difficult to judge without a side-by-side comparison in the same room and sound system.

Check Roland Backstage for the new owners manual on the GX. They just added it last week. So looking forward to this.

Kinda late, but I thought I'd add some input to this thread.

I got a chance to play an RD700GX in Guitar Center today. GC had it plugged into a high end amp, hanging off of the wall.

IMHO, for pure feel, it tops out my CLP280, even hanging from the wall! Very realistic low notes, crisp and full high notes.

I love my 280, but the Roland blew me away. Maybe I'll by an amp for the Yammy.

I have owned the SX for 3 years and I am upgrading to the GX

First of all, I have been a big fan of Roland's RD, since the intro of the Rd700

IMO, the Rd700GX is the piano players Digital Piano. The acoustic pianos and EP's sound great and are varied. Plus adding FX and the new ARX features- honestly, I don't see any other Keyboard co offering a DP with this level of quality and FX control.

hi folks, Ive been waiting for the GX-700 for a while and one day I saw it sitting in my local guitar center (came sooner than expected)! I started touching it and I went OMG !!! This feels like a Steinway ! and sounds even better !!! To make it short I put it on my credit card and brought one home ! Its an amazing keyboard! Nothing compares as far as touch and crystal clear sounds.. What Ive been waiting for ever !!!
bravo ROLAND !
