I would like to purchase an electrical piano capable of decent composistion, playback etc.
What features, and what do they mean, should I look for.

Features you should look at in a Digital Piano:

*The Action- The Action of a Digital Piano is very important. This is very personal preference. Digital Pianos have many different types of actions, like Weighted Graded Hammer Actions, Semi Weighted Actions, and some cheap ones even have Piano Style keys that are not weighted at all. You will want to try the action out yourself.

*The Sound- Again, this is a personal preference thing. You need to try the Piano for yourself to see which one sounds awesome to you.

*The User Interface- When looking at Digital Pianos, you also want to check out the user interface, and how the buttons and controls are placed. This may not seem important, but if you are at a gig, and you really don't know the user interface, you may press the wrong controls, or get confused. Get to know the user interface.

*The Pedals- You will also want to look into how the pedals work on different digital Pianos. Some of them are graded, and some of them are just on/off. If you are a Pianist, you want to go with graded. The on/off switches are, IMO, not acceptable. The graded are the ones you want.

If you need any more help, I will gladly answer your questions.

You really do not have to buy a piano with a built in sequencer if you don't want to - that might limit your choice ... or not. You will be able to hook up any electric piano to your computer and compose and edit there as well. Actually editing on the computer might be a bit easier than using _just_ the piano. Via midi, every piano will be able to play back midi information from your computer. I'm only mentioning this because the screens on most electric pianos are less than wonderful. I only use the built in sequencer on my piano to practice with.

You also might find more responses to your question at Keyboard Magazine's online forum. This forum sees much less traffic in the electronic dept.
