and I brought home the Yamaha CP-300 today. Still in the box, haven't had time to unbox it yet. I hope to get it setup later this evening.

Got the Quik-Lok WS550 stand, dust cover, CPRest and storage bench all for under $2200 (including tax) from a Sam Ash store. Perhaps not a great deal, but good enough for me to jump in.

It was tough to pass on so many worthy contenders. I would still like to try the MP5. I briefly sampled a CE200 today but could not generate any enthusiasm about it. I would also love to try out the GEM rPR-800 when it comes out in a week or so. But AFAIK, it will only be available from Sweetwater.

I took another look at the FP-7 and have to say that it came up several notches from my first look a week or so back. The built-in speakers were much better than I remembered.

After listening to as much as I could, I found that I preferred the Yamaha sound overall. I checked to see how well I could do pricewise with the CLP-240, but there are none available in my area, all sold out to local colleges and such. Also, the best price I could get was ~$2500 which I still thought a bit high.

Now... it's time to open the box...

Enjoy! Whether you are buying electronic or the finest acoustic grand - all you can do is play different ones, pick the one that impresses you most within your budget, and enjoy it.

I've played a CP300 at the local music store for a few minutes. It does have a good sound (I'd love to hear it through a first class external soud system. It had not been released when I bought my Kurzweil.

My firm was an authorized Yamaha service center for 15 years - unless they have changed radically, they back their stuff very well.

If portability was a factor, you will enjoy the CP better than a CLP.

Thanks Jim. Moveability more than portability was a factor for me.

I figure I can always add some powered speakers later if I want to improve the sound from the onboard speakers.

One thing that I've already found is that the QL WS550 stand is too tall... slightly for me, but moreso for the kids.

I'm gonna have to examine my options there.

Also, I was initially concerned that the single unattached footpedal would move around during use. In the store, it wasn't a problem so I thought I would be ok. On my berber carpet, it IS a problem and it walks away from me. How do you guys deal with that? Put some velcro on the bottom?
