Anyone have any experience with this Kawai instrument? In comparison with Yamaha CLP380?

Yes, the CA111 does exist, however given the cost of this instrument, the production quantity is relatively low.

Is there anything specifically you would like to know about?

Kind regards,
James

Thanks. I guess my google skills need improvement. Interesting that it doesn't seem to pop up on Kawai's site.

How long has this model been in production?
What are the advantages of the CA111 over the CA91?
How does the CA111 compare on a feature to feature basis to the Yamaha CLP380?

theJourney,

The CA111 is a relatively new instrument, with production commencing late into the second quarter of this year.

The primary advantage of the CA111 over the CA91 is that its appearance is almost identical to that of a polished ebony upright piano, more specifically the KAWAI K-2.

Of course, I still believe that the current CA91/71/51 cabinet design is very attractive, however there are some individuals that simply prefer the look of a 'traditional' piano. The CA111 satisfies their demands, while providing the additional functionality of a digital instrument.

The naming of the CA111 itslef is a little confusing, as it suggests technical superiority over the CA91 when in fact the opposite is true. While the tone generator and soundboard speaker system are identical, and both instruments utilise the same wooden key action, the CA111 does not include all of the CA91's features - the number of sounds has been reduced, and there are no built-in lessons, for example.

It could be argued that the CA111 is closer in technical specification with the digital components of an AnyTimeX piano, as both instruments utilise concealed slide-out control panels (although their operation is slightly different).

When compared with a CLP380, on paper the Yamaha product clearly has the advantage in terms of the number of features, buttons, and flashing lights. However, I would suggest that this is an unfair comparison, as the two instruments are intended for different markets.

The CA111 is for musicians that desire the most traditional looking instrument in their home - a piano that they can sit down at and enjoy with very little fuss. If they feel the need to change sounds, or use other digital functions, the options are there, however the strongest features of the CA111 - notably, the wooden key action, the soundboard speaker system, and of course the beautiful cabinetry - are inherently traditional in their nature. When producing the brochure, I suggested to a colleague that the CA111 is the least 'digital' digital piano that KAWAI has ever produced - indeed, it's a digital that *thinks* it's an acoustic!

I hope this helps. If you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to send me a private message.

Kind regards,
James

Thanks for this information!

I wonder what the approximate street price difference would be between a K2 with Anytime and the CA111...
