Hi Everyone,

It's my first time posting in the digital piano forum. I was hoping you guys could help me out...
Basically, I have an audio file which I would like to transcribe into sheet music. The composer is not mainstream (at least I don't think so) and his sheet music is not commercially available.
My current inclination is to learn the piece by ear, then play on a keyboard to get a MIDI file, then have a software with scoring utility convert it to sheet music. The audio file --> MIDI conversion doesn't give a desirable result (too many fast passages.)
I will most likely end up using keyboards available at the university that I'm at, or rent one from a music store. In terms of the software, I am looking for a decent one with scoring utility that costs under $150 (PC).

So my questions are:

1) Is this strategy the most efficient one?
(learn by ear--> keyboard--> convert to score)

2) What's available in terms of the software? Has anyone tried ScoreMusic?

Thanks for your input,
