I bought a Yamaha Disklavier DGA1 a few years back. I only knew that I wanted a player and this one came recommended from a good friend who worked closely with a store owner. We did get it for a good price. The Disklavier unit itself is DKC55. It is playback only, so no recording. Now that my daughter is older and making up songs of her own her teacher is forever asking her to write out her songs. I'd like to make things simple for her and let her use PrintMusic instead of doing her notation by hand.

That said, I know the back of the unit has midi in and midi out. I have PrintMusic software also. I called Yamaha direct today and got a guy who had to keep going and asking questions (maybe he was new, was nice, but kept putting me on hold). At one point he said it would be no problem for me to get a midi USB cable to go from what my daughter is playing on the piano to my laptop. Then he said that since it's playback only that it would not work. So, I asked if there were an upgrade and he just quickly said "no". I did some research and found the DSR1 Digital Sequencer Recorder that says it upgrades your older Disklavier....so at this point I'm very confused.

My questions....1) is there any way to send what my daugher is playing to my laptop with my piano as it is now.
2) If not...is there an upgrade so that I can add something and be able to send the music to my laptop.

I'm not going to actually buy the USB cable until I know if this will work for me. Hence all the questions.

I'd also like to transpose music and change keys for other reasons. I feel like I have this very expensive piano sitting in my house that is only good for playback now.

Any advise?
