I have an Apple MacBook Pro and I'm thinking of buying a Clavinova (probably a CVP403).

Does anyone have any experience connecting a Clavinova to an Apple via USB for MIDI transmission? I can only find a universal driver on the Yamaha website and there's little information around for the Clavinova specifically.

I want to use it with Logic primarily.

I have a 407, if no one else answers, and if I have time, I'll give'er a spin tonight and let you know how it goes. I know that for USB<->MIDI adapters, no driver is required for OSX (Tiger or Leopard, this is how I have our old CLP with MIDI only connected to our Mac) so I would expect that none would be required for the direct USB connection since it's just MIDI over USB anyway.

I have a Roland rd700sx that has USB, and I just plugged it via USB into my iBookG4 and Garageband recognized it and it works fine.

I do not thing the Clavinova would be any different.

I think you will need to run the Yamaha USB driver install. I ran mine when I was using Tiger. I needed it because the S90 was not seen on the computer until I ran the USB installer and restarted. I'm on Leopard now, but the Yamaha object is still in the Preferences for Leopard so I'm thinking it still needs it.

btw: They have a relatively new version of the USB for Mac on Yamahas site.

Thanks for the replies. I'm hoping it will be fairly straight forward and it does sound as though it should be a fairly safe bet.

I might try to take my laptop to a local dealer and give it a try if I can.
