I just got my Roland FP 4. Found a good deal on ebay. Well, actually it was a good deal before people started bidding. Anyway, I paid 1026$ + shipping for a like new model+stand and bench (not the Roland stand, though).
I love the FP4: the action might not be like the real thing, but it's and very fun to play and smooth.
The piano sound is good, no matter if a little on the mellow side. I'm satisfied with it.
And I find the Rhodes piano sound to be spectacular!
The model I got was in excellent condition, even though used. It only had a little flaw: the low A (leftmost key on the keyboard) makes a weird clunky sound when pressed in a certain way. It's not stuck or anything: it just clacks from time to time. I thought it might be because nobody ever played it, so it kinda went stiff. What do you think?

I must also mention that also the black keys make a little noise. At least they make more noise than the white ones. Is that normal, or can it be due to consumption?

Black keys on my FP4 are a bit noisier mechanically. Check with board turned off to compare the white to black keys.

As for a one key only problem and even then only a sometimes situation, I'd not worry about it if you don't have a playability problem nor a warranty.

Like you, I bought from a vendor on eBay, saving $600.00 (CDN) but sacrificing a warranty.

The black keys can make clacking noises when struck slightly off angle. It's because the key bumps slightly sideways against its front guide post. When the keyboard is new there is a dab of grease on the guide post and that keeps it quite for a while. After a few hours of playing the grease begins to slip down the vertical guide post and the key makes a clacking noise when it bumps sideways against its guide post. The Kawai ES4 black keys have the same situation and I have greased both models and am about to do the FP4 again. There are photos online of how to do this.
BOTTOM LINE: Call Roland and complain, they know about the problem but pretend no to.

Hi rintincop,

Do you know if that is true for the FP7 as well...?
