I have been given an opportunity to buy a used Roland KR75. It was played only a few times before the owner died, and the daughter who inherited the home has never played it at all. I am a retired teacher who has played for many years, but I have always played acoustic pianos. I know nothing about digital pianos, but I do prefer the feel of an acoustic keyboard. I have kind of been thinking of messing around with a bit of composition. Long story short... is this a good piano, and what would be a fair price for it? Thank you so much for any help you might be able to give me.

Digital pianos are the greatest thing that's
ever happened in the piano world. They offer
affordable prices, freedom from tuning and
maintenance forever, portablility, durability
and reliability, volume control (the
single greatest advantage), superior
technique development (similar to
the old silent keyboards that used to be
popular with concert pianists in the 1939's--
silent keyboards were invented because
of the inherent shortcomings in acoustic
pianos with respect to technique development),
instant record and playback, computer
connectivity, and much more. I grew up
with classical lessons and acoustic pianos
only, but since 1989 I've been playing only
digitals and I'm sold on them and regard them
as vastly superior to acoustic pianos.

This KR 75 seems to be a discontinued model
that may be as much as 10 yrs. old. Digital
pianos are essentially computers, and a rough
guide to pricing is to use personal computer
prices. A 10 yr. old pc would be worth
litte, no matter what it sold for new, maybe
$300 max. This should be a fine piano,
but you shouldn't pay more than about $300
(or less) for it, no matter what it sold for
new.

Looks like it was introduced in 1998 - I could not find one for sale, so no help on price, but I agree with Gyro in that it is old enough to be behind the curve, and it's price should be modest, no more than a few hundred.....
