I just started playing keyboard and i got a radioshack one for $80.00 (normal price: $120.00)
i was wondering if this was a good choice for starting out.

Well, that really depends on your abilities and goals. If you're a complete novice and you just want to learn the keyboard layout and get familiar with it, a cheap keyboard should work. If you have more ambitious goals, probably not.

so your saying that as i become more experienced that i should buy a higher quality one but for a complete novice a cheap one will do fine?

yeah, that's exactly what AaronSF meant. the keyboard like the one you bought is no comparison to a piano (digital/acoustic) not only for the sound quality but also the very different key action. the keys on a piano have weight, while the keys on a cheap keyboard do not have. therefore, the key feel is quite different. on a keyboard like yours, there is no difference to produce a sound whether or not you press/hit key hard or soft, while on a piano the sound would be quite different if you strike keys hard or soft.

so, it is pretty much up to your goal. for playing around for fun, a keyboard will satisfy you for quite a while. but if you are thinking about playing seriously some day (especially for classical music), then you definitely need to upgrade to a piano after a short period because you will soon find your keyboard no longer adequate for developing your skills.
