I want to keep my eyes open for used amplifiers for my Yamaha P90. It would be used in a small jazz setting (trio or with 1-2 horns).

Could you list all reasonable models in case I come across one at a used shop, pawn shop, or garage sale? I assume that a bass amplifier would not be a good idea.

Thanks,

I just purchased a Peavy KB5 stereo keyboard amp which seems to work reasonable well.

If you're looking used, try and find a Roland KC300 (current model is KC350). There's a stereo link feature that allows you to run them in stereo. I took two on the road with me a few years ago. They sound great and are very durable.

Steve's rec is a good one. Roland makes pretty decent keyboard amps. However, another suggestion is to patch your keyboard's stereo output into your sound man's (PA) board at the gig and see if he could put a monitor in front of you so you can gauge the sound level on stage. That works pretty well most of the time.
(Depending on the setup, you might need direct boxes)

Actually bass amps work pretty well for keyboards.
I was doing double duty as a bass player and keyboard player once and used the same rig for both.

ghostclaws made a good suggestion as well, but that leaves you vulnerable - you are relying on the sound man for your sound.

I think the Roland keyboard amps are overpriced for what you get.

You're kidding, right? How much frequency loss have you experienced that this actually sounds good to you?

Bass amps have almost no high frequency output. But don't take my word. Plug a keyboard into one and see if you can stand it for more than 10 seconds.

I'm not kidding. Of course it depends on the bass amp setup. a 4x10 + horn cabinet with a good amp and some EQ on the highs and you can certainly get by. Especially if you're doing rhodes/organs/synth stuff in a band.

you're right though - it's not ideal. I was pretty happy running a pair of Mackie SRM350's.
