Like in some posts below I am looking for a way to route the midi output from my Clavinova to my computer, and use a sampler to get a better sound. Gigasampler has been recommended but is quite expensive and then I also need to buy the actual piano samples. Now a friend pointed me to

Eastwest Bosendorfer 290

it seems that it comes with a sampler. Is it really true this is the only program I need? If so it is much cheaper than the competition. Has anyone tried it?

I think that the player that comes with the 290 is actually a ROMpler. Meaning that it's not a full featured sampler, and is intended to be used with the samples that you buy.

There are two other Bosie sample libraries that you might want to look at: Post Music Instruments and Bardstown Audio.

Also, there are summer sales going on, called Groupd Buy(s). I think that there's one here and another on the Northern Sounds Forum.

Sure, these look like good deals, but as I understand I would still need to buy a sampler. If all I want is to get a better piano sound (and not necessarily many different pianos) Giga or Kontakt seem like overkill. I mainly wondered if anyone had tried the eastwest B290.

Unfortunately you just missed the group buy of GPO which includes a sample player (Kompakt) and a Steinway sample (as well as samples of all the orchestral instruments. The final price was $139.

Have you considered looking at Forte which is a Giga sample player:

It only works with Giga 2 samples but you can't beat the price.
