will simply rule the world of high end digital pianos....

One of these companies (perhaps Kawai), needs to just take the full action section from one of thier grands, and incorporate it into a digital.

I don't mean the compromised'hammer action' and such that is thrown around by so many manufacturers, I mean the entire adjustable action from an acoustic grand, no compromises made. And instead of hitting strings, the hammers would just hit sensors.

Surely not for everyone, quite pricey, and heavy, but hell... there are digital pianos pricey enough to make one say 'I could get a used grand for this kind of money', so I'm sure there is a market out there for it.

Thoughts?

Allready available:

Yamaha GT2

Fairly popular here in Sweden. Can be seen on television on most every show this days containing piano music of some kind. Highly regarded among musicians despite the old sound engine. (polyphony 32!)

Best regards,

/Richard

Boesendorfer came up with a prototype at Musikmesse Frankfurt. Original action from their Imperial Grand, you can actually see the hammers moving. It is supposed to cost a tenth of a real Boesendorfer Imperial. Sound is best I've heard so far, but I don't think the action alone is not worth the price.

It is more than enough in this case. GT2 only contains one sample set of 30Mb, a Grand piano ;\) . Therefore it is impossible to split and/or layer sounds. \:\)
