Roland offer String Resonance in their midrange HP-203 and HP-204 and of course in the HP-207.

Kawai in their CE200, CA51, CA71 and CA91.

Has anyone a theory why Yamaha only offer String Resonance in their expensive flagship CLP-380 (speaking of CLP-3xx series only) and NOT in their new midrange CLP-340 and CLP-370 ?

wink

I love my dark rosewood Yamaha CLP-240. She's as honest with me as a loyal dog but she sounds better.

I assume Yamaha believes String Resonance is a desirable enough feature that in order to have it buyers are willing to purchase a CLP-380.. I have a CLP-340

I can't help bragging about it: I just bought a Roland HP207 , the CLP370 sounded boring compared to it... and I am over the moon smile and I couldn't be bothered to fork out 2 grant more for the CLP380 either. yawn

Marketing is as Marketing does.

The general downgrading of the 3xx series compared to 2xx and the ridiculous step price increase from 370 to 380 may pay off for Yamaha if they can get enough people to fork over the premium price.

For me, just as for others including apparently megrenk, it will just be one very logical reason not to choose Yamaha.

it's such a pity about Yamaha CLP 300 series, where they actually downgrade 370 from 270 level and add little to 340 from 240. what a shame, Yamaha!

the point is that majority people who want a CLP will not pay that much for a 380. but if they cannot find anything better, such as string resonance, on 340 or 370, then they would go for another brand, period. at least to me, it's such an unacceptable fact. i wouldn't buy 380, but will wait for 470 when it reaches 380's level (minus cosmetic features).

Yamaha's CP300 offers string resonance as well. I'm surprised a lot of the Clavinovas don't have string resonance, they're supposed to be great quality pianos...
