Hi everyone! Piano World forum NooB here (but hopefully not for long). I play in a band based out of CT that plays out all over New England on a semi-regular basis.
I have a StudioLogic SL-1100 that has served me very well over the years, but recently the keys have been having problems with the action. Specifically, the weighted action stops working on some keys.
My band plays mostly Southern-Rock, and as such, I tend to play a lot of "Billy Powell" type piano. In other words, I beat the Heck outta my piano - playing fast repetitive notes at times, which seems to have broken the piece of plastic that activates the weight. I'm technically and physically able to perform my own repairs.

My questions are...

* Does anyone know where I can find information on how to remove a broken key from the key bed?
* Any suggestions on where to source the parts?

Call me cheap, but I can't afford down time or costly repairs, so I tend to do whatever I can myself. Back when I played a real piano, I did everything except for tuning (replace hammers, straps, etc).

if you search for some really old threads, like in last 2 years, you might find some info about opening the keyboard case and replacing keys. however, as i remember, it was not the same keyboard like yours. i would guess that the idea would be the same.

basically, if you can find ways to remove the keyboard portion from its case, which would involve unloosening some screws on the case, then it would be easier to find out how to replace or repair a key from there.

I can get it apart, including taking the rack of keys out. I can not figure out how to remove an individual key to replace it. It's all plastic, and I don't want to damage it. I guess I'm going to have to get a new controller keyboard and then hack away at this one.
I've worked on a few keyboards, from Hammond Organs to your run-of-the-mill synths. All were easy to remove a key. This one seems like they snap in or something.

I may be too late here, but...

Once you remove the keybed and position it so you can see the weights, you will either see that each weight is removable by pulling it off of the metal rod that it pivots on or, you will see that at either end of the keybed (maybe under a small cover) you can see the end of the metal pivot rod. This rod can be pulled out to release the weights (all the weights ). Then you slide the rod back in as each weight is re-positioned. You should be able to order the proper weights by contacting StuidoLogic and they should also be able to tell you which version keybed was used in the SL-1100 so they can sell you the correct weights.

On the other hand, given your playing style, weights will probably continue to break over time so upgrading might be the thing to do. The new StudioLogic controllers use a new design keybed that does not use those old weights and can stand up to heavy playing, and they feel great too.
