I just wanted to thank everyone in the forum for the great discussions on the different digital pianos. I love the feel of the Yamaha pianos. A lot of people say the action is heavy, but it feels just right for my large fingers. I had literally purchased a YDP223 over the internet from Kraft Music and had it on its way when I found this forum. Of course being the inquisitive person I was, I read every article in the forum that contained comments about the YDP223, and boy am I glad I did. Everyone pretty much spelled out that the PF500 or P250 were really the models I was looking for due to the improve sustain sound performance. I went to the store to check out the PF500, and sure enough it was a tremendous improvement over the YDP223. Needless to say, I called Kraft Music about my order and they worked out a new deal with me to stop their current shipment and get a PF500 on its way (Great team there at Kraft Music, never ordered anything like this over the internet, but they handled my frantic request to stop the piano and get another on its way to me lol). Anyway, my PF500 will arrive next Wednesday and I'm really happy I found this forum in time.

Thanks again all, the additional money I paid for the PF500 was definitely worth the incredible jump in sound quality.

I felt the same way when I purchased my clp170 a little over a year ago... having never owned a digital piano, everyone was quite patient and kind regarding my numerous queries. So I'd like to also extend a huge thank you to everyone that contributes to this forum. You guys are awesome! cool

Congratulations Leo
I am still enjoying my own PF500 after almost a year now. Shame it is no longer available in Australia-other friends have wanted one but not been able to find it. I got the only one I have ever seen here!

Funny! I went through almost the exact process, starting out with the YDP-223 and ended up with the PF-500 from Kraft. Excellent retailer.

Enjoy!

Leo, We share the exact same story..

I initally bought a YDP233 (two fridays ago), even though I knew, in my heart, I wanted the PF500.

after a few days of mulling it over, I decided I would exchange for the PF500. I finally got it on Teusday, it is tremendous..

The YDP is a great piano, but the PF500 is 20 times the instrument. the piano sounds are insane, and the rest of the primary sounds are as crazy. The strings on the PF500 are gorgeous.

I haven't even touched the sequencing yet, and just getting used to all the editing fucntionality.

I absolutely love it.

and this forum is indeed awsome,, one of the best, thanks to the membership.. I'm so gald I found this place.

Forgot to mention that if your order included the Audio-Technica headphones, don't use them! These bundled ATs are nowhere near the quality of typical ATs made and sold in Japan. The base response is nice but the mids are highs are bad. They will make your PF-500 sound really cheap. Call Kraft and ask if you could exchange them for a pair of AKG K240S or K271S and pay the difference. (Note: "S" denotes Studio.) The K240S are an "open-back" style (no isolation from outside noise), and the K271S are "closed-back" ( opposite to "open-back").

I ended up using my 17-yr old AKG K280 and they sound so much better than the ATs. Now I'm looking to get my hands on a pair of AKG K501.

Of course, all this only matters if you practice with headphones a lot.

Thanks for the great suggestion about headphones. I will give Kraft Music a call and see if they'll swap them out. I'm exciting as it arrives tomorrow! I didn't realize the "s" designation was for studio, but this makes sense. Thanks again!

Here is my update on the PF-500 and new headphones:

First of all, the only thing I can think of is WOW. I heard the PF500 in a noisy music shop, and now that I have it home the difference is absolutely amazing between the PF500 and the YDP223. I played moonlight sonata and there just wasn't any comparison between the two. As for the included headphones, the Yamaha rep was right. I couldn't stand to listen to myself play on the headphones, because they weren't even as good as the keyboard speakers (which by the way actually sound pretty darned good to me). I just received my AKG K271S headphones and again WOW! Those things really knock my socks off with their sound quality. Better than any headphones I have heard before.

I love my purchase, and believe it or not the keyboard FEELS great to me. Some people have said the keyboard is a little firm for them, but I love it. It makes playing on my friends Acoustic Grand piano really easy. I can't tell the difference between the PF500 and the CLP170, so I must not be good enough to notice what some have said about the keyboard.

Anyway, I love my PF500, I have played it nonstop and now with the headphones I can play late at night (I couldn't stand to listen to myself play on the old headphones, they were such poor quality that it was like grinding your fingernails on a chalk board to me)

Thanks again to everyone for the advice, everyone in the forum rocks! I am going to enjoy this keyboard and now I can play with the television bothering me with my new headphones (Whoever the Yamaha person was who helped me with the headphone suggestion, thanks A LOT!)

nice update leo.

I certainly can releate, I love mine, I have had it for about 2 weeks now, I'm totally aclimated, I'm so glad I returned the YDP, this is 20 times the instrument.

The built in speaker system is pretty good, probably one of the best in all the piano's I tried.

I added an M-Audio LX4 2.1 surround sound speakers (2 satelites and a sub), the sub adds the bottom end that the Pf500 lacks, and the satelites help to spread the sound out, it sounds tremendous.
