Read here what the famous pianist Hugh Sung says on his weblog about a Casio PX-110 when his ROLAND RD-700 SX was to big to transport by air:

(see below the page for June 04, 07)
http://www.hughsung.com/blog/index.php?query=muse+receptor&amount=0&blogid=1

Some quotes:

" .... I then saw a set of Casio Privia digital pianos, the slimmest 88-key models i've ever seen sporting a "fully weighted" keyboard action that actually felt pretty good - not as heavy as my Roland RD-700SX, but certainly WAY better than any MIDI controller action. Since i didn't need any of the fancy features of the higher end models, i went with the entry level PX-110 ....."

" ....The absense of extra pitch bend or controller wheels helps to keep the dimensions of this design to a bare minimum. I didn't bother to listen to the sound of this instrument, as i would be using it primarily as a controller for my Muse Receptor running Pianoteq, but at least there was a set of speakers built into the unit if i really need to listen to something on the fly....."

Looks like a nice confirmation of the CASIO's beeing good budget DP's and fine for the money, especially for their keyboard action.
Of course the more expensive YAMAHAS and ROLANDS are still better and especially SOUND better. Also the KAWAI CA's and CE-200 are great for their keyboard, a bit less for their soundsystem so i read in the forums.

wink

I love my dark rosewood Yamaha CLP-240. She's as honest with me as a loyal dog but she sounds better.

That is pretty interesting.

On a related note, I just checked musiciansfriend. The PX-200 is the same price as the PX-110 (both $499). Seems like a great sale price for the PX-200 right now.

I try to keep an eye on Slickdeals, so that when I get in the market for one of these (probably sooner rather than later), I know what the going on-line rates are. Let's see if this link works:

http://slickdeals.net/sdsearch.php?mode=&showposts=0&search=privia

FWIW, the lowest prices it is reporting are:

  • PX-110 $379
  • PX-120 $399
  • PX-310 $399
  • PX-200 $499
  • PX-320 $699

If a pianist like Hugh Sung finds a DP's action to be even "pretty good", I consider that quite an endorsement.
