Anyone know much about the Kawai line of digital pianos? What's the difference between CA and CN series? How does CN4 compare to CA5?

I read something about Kawai having financial difficulties. Is this unsubstantiated rumor or does anyone know?

There seems to be very little chatter about Kawai digital pianos. Do Yamaha and Roland have THAT much of the market? (perhaps there's a reason they do?)

Unfortunately there's also almost no chatter about Gem, Viscount, Suzuki, Casio, Korg, Kurzweil, etc. etc. So your Kawai is probably a fine instrument. smile

(Chances are people are going to try convince you to buy a Yamaha P120 now though. bah )

Stan,

I've been a Yamaha fan for a long time. However, I'd like to give other brands a fair consideration before I plunk down some hard earned cash. I value the feedback I find on these forums and am disappointed to find so little info about other brands.

Hi speedlever

I've got a CA 7 after checking a few different others as Yamaha, GEM, Casio. I am a beginner and was looking for a nice digitalpiano close to a real one. I am very happy with my CA7. When I checked the kawai.com forum (it's written in german) I found some pianist which do concerts with a CA9. The respond was that it should be a CA because the CN seemed not to be as good, but also more expensive.

I would go again for a CA7.

I bought a CA5 in December '04 and I'm delighted with it. Admittedly, I don't take advantage of the MIDI, USB and Recording features (and I rarely change the piano sound either). I do use the volume knob though ... when you're as bad as me, you quickly learn to appreciate the volume knob.

I'm a relative beginner (Grade 2 aiming for Grade 3 Rockschool) and I use it about 1 hour a day on average. I won't pretend to be able to compare it to a Grand or an Upright; I simply don't have the experience of either. However, to my ears, it sounds and feels like the real thing and I don't have any great difficulty when I play on my teachers piano during my weekly 30min lesson.

I would be happy to buy Kawai again.

Rob.

Thanks for the feedback, guys.

Any comments on the harmonic imaging technology Kawai touts?

Does that equate to Yamaha dynamic stereo sampling plus string resonance?

Edit: My initial impression is that the CA vs CN differences have to do with:
1) CA provides wooden keys
2) CA provides more electronic features.
