Cracking noises on Yamaha DGX 620

I bought a DGX 620 with a wood stand couple months ago, and it's making a cracking noises that come from the upper plastic part of the instrument, but only when it is on the included stand. It's happening when I hit with strength or playing chords with a lot of notes. It's a crack noise like the piano is not sitting well on the stand. What is interesting is that if I hold the piano with the other hand, the noise disappears. Did you notice this problem in your 620? What can I do to solve this problem (returning the instrument is not an option, because people in this store are jerks and evading from fixing or replacing the piano, unfortunately, I don't live in the USA….).

Yes, I know it's not good and it's very disturbing me, because I play many rich chords on the Yamaha. The question is what can I do to fix that? Note that the noises are only when it is on the included stand, when I put it on another performance X stand or on a table, it's ok. So the problem is in the interaction with the included wood stand.

ah! so that is your problem, huh?
well, just garbage the stand and put the keyboard on a table, then... no big issue. Or you might fasten the screws or something.
I generally don't pay attention to noises when I'm playing music, or when I'm on headphones...

Pianoid, this is not a solution, I spent a lot of money (for me) for the Yamaha, and I want to use the included stand and not spending more money for a special table. I checked that the screws holding the piano to the stand are tight and that the metal support bar is tightly attached. I also tried to change the surface and putting the stand on a carpet. Waiting for other suggestions…… Thanks.

Loni, what matters is the keyboard, not the piece of wood that comes together. If it wasn't so heavy and large I'd even play it on my lap if there was no table around. Or you could play with headphones and forget about the exterior noises if that really bothers you...

Your floor may not be level. Maybe check that and compensate somehow. That's the only reason I can think of for it to shift and make a noise. *Something* is shifting and gravity's probably the "cause."
At least it's worth checking. Gravity's guilty of a lot of not-so-great things.

Try putting a couple of matchbooks under different legs of the table and see what happens.
It's clear to me that the weight you're exerting when you "hit with strength or playing chords with a lot of notes" is what's causing the noise when the instrument moves on the stand.
Try different legs/matchbooks and see if the noise stops.

sid, I tried today putting two cardboards between the stand and the piano, it didn't help. Bonnie Granat, I tried putting the instrument on a carpet and in another apartment, and the noise is still there.

DinoCow, most of the noise seems to come from the plastic surface that placed to the right of the left speaker. Please see the following picture, I circled the place in red: http://loni.mail333.com/DGX620.JPG

The only other reason I can think of is that the top half of the keyboard(the silver plastic part) is not mounted securely to the bottom half of the keyboard(the black underside of the keyboard). If this is not the case, then there might be something loose inside the keyboard.
I didn't have time to test it out today, so I'll get back to you soon.

An update about the cracking noises - after I spoke with several people from this forum by private messages, Johan B suggested to write a complaint letter to Yamaha about my problem, I did that and after 2 weeks, the store when I purchased the instrument contacted me and told me that as a result of my complaint, their administration decided to replace my instrument to a new one! I replaced it and now it seemed to be fine. I want to thank Johan B for his help, this forum and all the people who answered me here and by private messages.

That's great news. Glad it worked out for you and its good to see a veteran manufacturer still stand behind their products.
