Hey,
So there's a used P120 up on craigslist right now and the guy said he'd be willing to sell it for $700. This is without the stand and whatnot. Would you say this is reasonable? Does the p120 have the same action as the 140?
Any idea as to differences and whatnot?

they should have the same action (on specs), even though someone once said that he felt GH action on 140 a little better than GH on 120. but i couldn't tell much about P140's GH action from GH on mine (pf500).

some people like the older version such as P90/120 rather than newer CP33/P140. beside P90 (since my teacher has one), i don't know much about 120, and only know CP33 is not quite the same as P90 which has more functionalities than CP33 actually.

Not sure on price there in Toronto, that would be an OK deal here, not great, not bad. Try to get the guy to throw in the stand and if he has one. I like my P90 better than my P140, and I think the P90 is just like the P120 except it has no speakers.

Hey, one last question about the P120 (I'm having it delivered to my place on Tuesday)

In terms of stands, any recommendations? The only stand I have available is a single X two tier stand which i used to use for my V-synth and a midi controller, but now have those on my desk with all my other synth stuff.
I'm kind of worried that it won't hold the weight of the p120.

Alternatively, are there are Yamaha stands that will fit the P120S?

Thanks

yes, there is a Yamaha stand for the p-120. It is called the LP-120(S). It keeps mine at the right height and it is very stable, at least better than the X stand I use for my synth.
Now, I do not know where you will find one. I bought my P-120 with the stand brand new years ago. I wonder if the stand for the P-140 would work.

Erm, what I meant to say was, are there any alaternatives to the LP_120S?
I'm not keen on shelling out $150 for particle board, plus I plan on lugging this thing to jam space.

a good X stand is enough to hold a P120. my teacher also use X-stand (double braced) for his P90.

you can find it here:

Hey Khory,

I have one of these for my Yamaha P70 and it is very stable and very portable

It has four legs and is fully adjustable.

Single X though? Mine's a single X with a support bar to hold the two parts together.

Hmm, it's the only place I have to put the thing in the mean time; after I buy this thing I will have a grand total of two dollars till Friday (they're delivering it to me on Tuesday).

Fun.

I'm inclined to buy one of those platform ones though, as YabbaDabba pointed out.

Hrmmm.

Oohhhh, one last thing re:warranty.

I'm not sure they have the original warranty card for the P120, which bugs me. Is there a way of getting a new warranty card/registering the p120 with Yamaha in order to get the warranty?
$700 is a TON of money for me, being a student. If those keys break, I'll be done as I'll have essentially no means of getting them repaired, and I've heard that keys breaking is an issue with the p120s.

Anyway, I really appreciate all your advice. I've never bought a digital piano before but when it comes to buying anything over $100 I tend to go crazy in my attempts to be an informed consumer. I really hope the P120 will last me for at least two or three years as I relearn piano.
