I'll be looking at a CLP-240 this weekend. (I'd love to get a 270, but it's more than I want to spend.)

I've just joined this forum, and only just now learned that there's a CLP-300 series, but it does not appear on the Yamaha US web site. (It does show up on the UK site.)

So here are my questions:
1. Can I expect to see the CLP-300 series here (Florida) anytime soon?
2. Should I wait to try a 340 before I run off and buy a 240?
3. When (if) the 340 appears in the US, can I expect to see price reductions on the 240?

someone said in another thread that CLP300 models will be in US in about a month.

the action on 340 wouldn't be that different from 240's, both GH3, but there'll be some sound improvement on 340.

i think stores are already discounting 240, but it may vary from store to store, depending on their inventory. you might want to check it out in several stores to see what's the price difference.

Check around for the 300 series - the store right by my work has several models (I tried a 380 the other day) and I'm up in Canada.

I saw a CLP 370 at a dealer last week. The stores around here are discounting the 200 series units to move em out.

I broke down and got the 240, delivered today. I got it down to $2305, plus tax and delivery. I chose the ebony polish. The asking price for the rosewood was a good bit less, and I liked the finish, but I feared that the veneer/laminate would chip over time.

The shop had a 330, but I didn't like the tone as well as the 240. He didn't yet have any other 300-series models.

Well, my daughter and I agree ... it doesn't quite sound like a piano. I think it's because the speakers face downward.

I tried a Roland digital at another store (I think it was an RG-1) with the ultra-mini grand shape and upward-facing speakers ... very nice tone. I guess I'm accustomed to the Kawai upright ... the sound comes right out in front of you.

But the Roland was $7000, a bit too rich for my blood. I think Yamaha has a high-end 200-series in that style, but I didn't see one on the floor, and it, too would likely come in at a high price.

Anyway, just two things left:

1. Headphones. Any recommedations for under $50? How about under $100? I don't know what to expect in price or quality because it's been MANY years since I bought one. I can't tolerate a heavy headset ... I once had a Koss unit (30 yrs ago) with the oil-filled ear pieces. Great sound, but it gave me a headache after a while because of the weight. I don't know what to expect today. Help!

2. Would it make sense to add external upward-facing speakers, hooked to the aux-out? Recommendations?

Sorry for the long-winded post. TIA for your help.

for headphones in $100 range, consider Sennheiser, AKG, and Sony brand ones. they are all good. i don't remember the model names, but you can search by those brand names online. there're also some old threads on this forum that you can search, in which people made specific recommendations.

it's the best to stay in around $100 range (not much below) for your headphones, because any of that in that and above range will have significant better sound quality. only when i got my Sennheiser one, i realized how much difference it makes from the cheap headphones.
