Hello,

I am new here. Does anyone have an opinion on which is better, the CLP230 or CLP330?

I think this question came up in an earlier mail but now I can't find it using the search. Sorry if I've duplicated this question.

As far as I can tell, they both have the GH3 keyboard, same speakers/amplifiers, and AWM thing.

So what is the difference; will it be worth spending the extra £600 on the 330?
All I will be using it for is the piano sound, not all the different sounds you can get like strings, harpsichord etc. I'm just interested in the realistic sound and the realistic pianoiness of the keys.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks, Gillian.

get the new one: CLP330 which is better one of the 2, since it's added 3-level dynamic sampling which 230 dosen't have (or just 1-level). 330 also is doubled polyphony to 128.

actually, if you don't want to spend too much on a 330, then at least get CLP240 instead which is still far better than 230.

Thanks for the reply; I appreciate any advice when spending this much money on something that will be with me a long time!

When you say the 240 is 'far better' than the 230, does that mean in sound quality or just more gizmos on the control panel? I don't think my local shop has them both on display for comparison, although I can look at the specs online.

Also I don't really understand what polyphony is. Why is more polyphony better than less?

Are there any in that price range with natural wood keys (£1000 - £2000)? Perhaps there are non-Yamaha's that I should consider. I just don't know!!!
I like the idea of natural wood keys, less plastic and more piano-y. I tried a kawai in the shop but I think the key action wasn't as good, in my completely uninformed opinion, as the yamaha's, even though the keys were wooden on the kawai.

Thanks, Gillian.

Polyphony = how many notes can sound at the same time. For example a 3 note chord uses up 3 'polyphony units'...

except some new sound samples of 330, 240 shares many features of 330, including 3-level dynamic sampling (meaning sound layers between ppp-fff, the more layers, the more realistic). for more details, check the specs at Yamaha site.

since CLP300 series is coming to market, CLP200 series models are on sale and you might be able to get better discount on a CLP240. i wouldn't want a CLP230, if i were you. i would either buy the older 240, or get new 330.
