Have a question - I'm currently learning all the movements from Couperin's Mass for the Convents. Just started learning the fifth movement from the Kyrie actually. What I would like to do is perform this work, with someone or a small schola chanting the appropriate chants in between the movements.

Here is the question. Were the chants used in between the movements "Gregorian" or was it something else? What would be the more historically accurate chant/texts to use in this situation?

If anyone can point me in the direction of references I can check, I would be very highly appreciative of that.

Thanks in advance.

Lyn,
Yes, I am looking at an old LP of Marilyn Mason (Univ. of Mich.) where she plays a Magnificat(18th C.) and the men of the choir do the intonation (chant) and the organ enters with the Plein Jeu or whatever the other sections called for ( in alternation). When she played at my church many years ago, she did the same thing with just a soloist. I studied the Couperin Mass of the Convents while in grad. school and really enjoyed them. Make sure that you do notes inegales! \:\) I play on a big tracker now that has very good cornets and reeds. The Grand Jeux sounds great, too. The mechanical action makes it really fun to play these pieces!
