Has anyone heard of the Bamboo Organ of Las Pinas in Metro Manila, Philippines? I had the chance to see this organ when I was in the Philippines last March. My cousin took me there on the way to his house in Cavite. He didn't tell me that we were going to see this, otherwise I would have brought a camera. Anyway, I found a website that was devoted to this and other pipe organs in the Philippines; its URL is: http://www.geocities.com/phil_pipeorgans/
and the URL for the Las Pinas Bamboo Organ is: http://www.geocities.com/bamboo_organ_ph/
Then I noticed that the Organ Historical Society had in its catalogue a two-CD set featuring the Australian organist Douglas Lawrence playing various selections (Zipoli, Pachelbel, Galuppi, Bach, etc.) plus there are interviews and a QuickTime movie featuring a "video scrapbook" of the church and community where the organ is located. It was very nice to listen to, and the historical notes in the booklet were fascinating to read.
I'm really glad I got this CD and got the chance to listen to the sounds of this Filipino historical treasure.
