Well, the Taliban now has just one strong hold left in Afghanistan and are to this point, not willing to give it up to the northern alliance. I feel so happy for the Afghans! The women don't have to wear their face masks anymore, the people of the city of Kabul were able to go and see a movie for the first time since the taliban moved in, and they couldn't be happier (it seems). I hope that the next government will be a better one at running that country. Prehapps the taliban will soon break down and reveil the hiding spot for Osama bin Laden.

Here's a link to a very sad story about the Taliban during its reign taking an ax to the many antiquities of Afghanistan: LA Times story The link will only be good for two weeks. I know that it was a very barbaric regime, but the glee in which high ministers of the government bludgeoned their ancient art to pieces is very disturbing. I guess I've become used to man's inhumanity to man. Man's inhumanity to art is something else. penny
