The next question after all that has happend and all that will happen is how to rebuild the New York World Trade Center. I have heard that the new buildings to be built will only go up to about 60 stories, no higher. I beleive, however, that we should rebuild the towers to the same hight, all 110 stories of them. Possably even higher. Building smaller buildings is like, in a way, letting the terrorist win. Its like they have scared us enough to keep us from building any more skyscrapers. We can't let that happen. We need skyscrapers. We're running out of room in this world to build out, so we must build up instead. Not only that, they can make a city skyline beautiful, and I can't begin to imagine looking at New York without those towers there, standing in all their glory. A couple of months ago, while standing on the observation deck of the Space Needle, I tried to imagine what the Seattle City Skyline would look like without any of its skyscrpaers. I just couldn't do it. So, are we going to let these couard terrorists scare us to the point to where we don't want to build any more skyscrapers/towers, or are we going to build up, only this time, we are more prepared for what might happen. And, we have stricter security measures to keep such things from happening again, or at least significantly reduceing the chances of it happening again.

I agree the symbolism of rebuilding the towers just as high does send a message, but I don't think that message is diluted by building a 60-story building or two. That's still pretty tall. Here's a question, would an owner be able to rent out a building as fast and for as much in a building that sticks out like a sore thumb or blends in to the New York landscape (which is not exactly like the plains of Kansas, after all)? I think the decision will come down to that, and I'm sure there will be some beautiful memorial there as well.

i read somewhere that nobody is really building those ultra-tall skyscrapers any more because the engineering required to build them safely is just too expensive and the developers always lose their shirts on them.

i think if you rebuilt the wtc you might have a lovely--and empty--symbol of america's determination to prevail. nobody in their right mind would want to work there.

it also would serve as a terrifying reminder to people of what happened, and they would fear it happening again. i think the four 60-story towers--with some kind of a memorial park in their midst--is a much better idea.

I have found a disscussion board on a news site where people are disscussing on how to rebuild the WTC or to rebuild it at all, (as well as several other things about 9-11-01). If you would like to read what people have written, or give some of your own input, go to: http://www.gothamgazette.com/twin_towers_discussion/
