The one I've been avoiding. It's floor to ceiling, 3.5 feet deep, and 10 feet long. It's got the Holiday decorations, the extra school supplies, the old school supplies (just how many crayons does one family need, anyway?) an amazing amount of arts and crafts stuff and wrapping paper strewn ALL OVER, the magazines and junk mail I kept stuffing into it when we were showing the house ("I'll go through these later..."), and the dreaded photo album boxes (you know, the ones you toss the photo packets into that you are going to organize and label and put into those beautiful albums you bought on some rainy day when the house is immaculate, and the music is playing softly and you are drinking tea and eating freshly baked scones.) HA!. It took me yesterday afternoon just to make it through Christmas, Halloween and Easter. Sigh. Maybe I should just go drown myself in some Coconut Zingers. \:\) Jodi

Sounds like heaps of fun. (NOT!!!) Well, just think, you'll be able to sort through stuff and decide really what you want and what you don't want. Funny how the prospect of moving motivates one to clean out deep closets.

I still have heaps of boxes to go through which contain my grad school stuff. Been meaning to organise everything and send it all back to my thesis advisor. But then again, I've been saying this for the past 2 years.

Sigh. Got any Coconut Zingers to share, jodi? \:\)

Jodi,
You are scaring me! We just entered escrow today on a new house. It's in San Juan Capistrano, which is a beautiful area and the only place in Orange County that reminded me of my current hometown (lots of open space, trees, hiking trails, equestrian, etc.). We just listed our current house, so I haven't started packing yet. I WANT to be in denial, but I keep reading your posts! ;\)

Oh, the dreaded photo album boxes. I, too, am waiting for that peaceful rainy day when my house is immaculate and the kids are all gone so I can work on them. Make it a week, I am so behind.

Someone suggested taking the photo boxes to a hotel (prefereably with a spa) to work on the photo albums without distractions til they were done. \:\) Wanna join me?

Eeeeew! the photo albums!

There was a wildfire in northern Arizona about a week ago, that actually burned down 7 houses. They interviewed one of the folks who lost their houses, and they were bemoaning the fact that they had so little time to leave that they took just a few clothes and their photo albums.

I was immediately seized with guilt: "what if our house burns down and I don't have my photo albums ready?" \:\(

I'm embarrassed to admit that we STILL have boxes unpacked from our previous move, which was 5 years ago! So Jodi, at least you'll have a nice neat (hopefully smell-free?) new house to fill up in a few months!

YES! That's it! A Piano Forum Photo Album SPA party! I'll bring the chocolate. And Penny (congrats on your new house!) - I am now working on the arts and craft shelf - there are beads, and markers, and glue guns and glitter and construction paper EVERYWHERE. I gave up for the night and poured myself a glass of wine... \:D Jodi

Jodi,
I got a bid today on having the movers pack everything. It's a lot of money, but from what you describe, it sounds like it may be worth every penny! (no pun intended). I also got a bid today on moving my piano from a highly recommended piano mover. Only $265 from Thousand Oaks to San Juan Capistrano (about 95 miles or so). I think that sounds reasonable, don't you?

$265 sound VERY reasonable to me. One of those advantages of living in a highly populated area, I guess. I think I would still be losing my mind even if we were having the movers move everything. I would still be going through my closets and sorting, and getting rid of the things we don't need. If I let them pack it all "as is", I'd NEVER find anything once we got there! Good luck on your move, Penny - I'll be thinking of you when I'm all unpacked, sitting in the hot tub and sipping something cold! ;\) Jodi

I'll send you some in an email, Penny - later today. We are on our way to an after funeral "get together" (for lack of a better word) - one of those absolutely tragic things that makes you hug your kids tighter when kiss them good night. Our friends 4 year old grandson was killed when his stepfather backed over him in the driveway. They are devastated. I am trying to figure out how to get through this thing as a supportive friend without completely falling apart. \:\( Jodi

jodi,

There are no "right" words one can say at a time like this. Your being there means more than any kind words you will speak.

When a child dies, it seems like even the angels cry.

Peace.
