Sorry to hear that Jodi. This must be terribly frustrating for you. Even the thought of moving stresses me out, but hang in there and I'm sure this house has to be rejected because there's an even better one waiting for you.

Oh well Jodi, look on the bright side. It's not a house you lost, but a mistake you avoided. Keep hunting - yours is out there somewhere.

Sorry to hear about the house, Jodi. All houses have issues, but the spring under the house is a definite deal killer in my book.
Fear not! Houses are like pianos - and when you find the right one you will be SO glad you did not get the first one.
Good hunting!

I am somewhat shocked that they (you know, them) would have allowed a house to be built on that spot if the water table was so high. Just when was this house built? You said it was right on the water though, right? On the bay, or some body of fresh water?
Then again, with as much rain as the Washington coast gets, maybe nobody ever really noticed that the water was coming OUT of the ground! It might have been hard to tell if there's a lot of runoff.
Of course, you really don't want a bad roof in such a rainy place!
Keep looking, though. You still have plenty of time.

Well, we bailed on the house. (didn't want to be bailing the crawl space for the rest of my life ) Now we are in the process of making an offer on another house. Sigh. Not as close in to town, not quite the layout I like, but better views (bay and San Juans from the living room, and if you look off the back deck over the neighbors house and RV (yuck), you can sometimes see Mount Baker), bigger yard, sunnier, more storage, room for an art studio, room for the piano, and much better built. At least that's what we've been told... Also, unfortunately, it's more expensive. So I guess we'll be eating lots of mac n' cheese for dinner. I'll keep you posted. Jodi

jodi, Just a bit of encouragement. We looked at every house available in our years of house hunting. Our favorite house was destroyed in the San Franscico earthquake some ten years or so ago ( a week after we looked at it our agent called and actually said , "I'm so glad I didn't sell you that house!"). We had decided to wait to make an offer as our house in LA had not sold. The two houses we LOVED were gone. We took it as an omen that all was meant to be..
We then returned to Massachusetts as planned (after having our first child) again looking at everything available. The last house we looked at was perfect except for size and layout (?) Our real estate agent said, "You could always build our own" That did it. We built a timber frame house we loved on a lot that made both our hearts pound. We looked at it separately and got into the car and simultaniously said "this is it" (For me it was all the wild blueberries growing there)
The short story is follow your heart. What is meant to be will be....
Best of luck in your search..
