I mean a Personal Digital Assistant.

Handspring, Palm Pilot, Ipaq, Compaq, IBM, Casio, ......

I use a Palm Pilot. It has become something of a third arm for me. The strength of this machine is not what came preloaded on it, but what I have added to it in software that I have downloaded or had "beamed" to me by others.

Of course, the scheduler and address book are very useful as well. Am I the only one that uses these?

I also received a Palm handheld from work a few months ago and now I'm completely dependent upon it. Favorite app: PocketChess!

For a while now, I have been interested in getting myself one. If I do, it would probably be one of the low-end Palm or Handspring machines.

One use I would love trying it for, is as a universal remote control for the audio/video stuff at home.

Rich,

I don't use them, but the last company I worked for I developed several software applications for the PDAs. The two people that are in the offices next to me swear by them.

(Hope you can make the piano party on May 4th).

Mike

I had a PDA for years but stopped using it. They work fine, but given my profession I always have my computer with me. I can type about 90 wpm so the computer is my most efficient interface.

T2,

If I could have a laptop with me at all times, the PDA wouldn't be needed, but I can't. BTW, I have downloaded a metronome, a tuning fork, a chord dictionary, and a digital piano for palm pilot - all free.

Mike - I will be there! Unless I am in Estonia at the time.

Rich,
You haven't seen a Blackberry? It's email-to-go!

go here: www.rim.net to find out all about it. The people I know who have them adore them to pieces.

Hi, Rich:

The Blackberry isn't too expensive, but the monthly service is. I don't have to pay for it as it's picked up by work, and they have a contract that keeps their prices slightly lower than what they would offer a "regular" person. (Yes, I work for a large multi-national please don't tell Derick, although our CEO:regular guy pay ratio is one of the smallest in the Fortune 50).

It really functions as your Outlook program on a PDA... real-time email, "contacts," calendar, etc. I think sometime in Q3 they are coming out with internet (web) access as well, but can't imagine how this might work.

THAT would be a disaster! Piano Forum available 24x7, any time, anywhere. I'd never get anything done. \:D

Oops, one more thing-- hubby and I have a formal agreement to have "Blackberry free" zones (he has one as well).

If either of us shows up on one of our date nights with the Blackberry in hand, it's pretty much grounds for divorce.

Consider yourself warned! It's really hard not to check when you know you've just gotten an email...
