aka "The Mother of All Threads"
aka "The Thread That Everyone Hates"
aka "The Thread That Will Not Die"

aka "My Gryphonitis"

I am mulling over what to do about my gryphonitis.
He seems to like to go after me.
I have scratched his itches by responding most to his jabs for years.
It doesn't seem to stop.
Lately the rash and itching is getting worse.
Maybe he is like killer bees and West Nile, some scourge of our times to just get used to.

Boy, sometimes it sucks to be gay, outspoken, and “not know your place”.
I think all this comes from the threat I represent.
I expect to be treated equally here.
That upsets the sh*t out of some people.
So they go on the offensive every chance they get.

I don’t expect everyone to like me or agree with me.
But at least most people have learned to eventually ignore people that they don’t like and can’t change.

Gryphon is like a mosquito.
Harmless actually but very annoying.
I am not looking for someone to fight my battles.
I am just asking for opinions.
What should I do?

I tried calling him Gripe-On.
I thought that was very funny, but it probably encourages the bad behavior.
Besides, he didn’t get the hint, and the name didn’t catch on.

Should I continue to defend myself by responding to each of his little nips tit for tat, correcting the negative impression he likes to paint about me?
I could just leave it alone, and not bother correcting him.
I could just let people believe what he says about me.

Maybe I should I go on the offense, looking for every little inconsistency in *his* posts, and go after him for each one?

Should I just ignore him?

I think it's very rude to solicit negative opinions about forum members. We're adults here- we're not 4th grade girls. I will not publicly demean Gryphon or any forum member to agree with another. I've been involved in large wars in which people take sides. I don't believe that is good for our group psyche. You did that to me last week, and in my opinion, it did not serve you well.

I don't believe you want my advice... I think you just want to say that Gryphon sucks... but I'll offer it anyway..

I'd politely and consistently refute every post I wished to disagree with.. The fact that he disagrees with your position on being outspoken for instance is your problem and one that gives you the opportunity to present your side. I believes it's immature and mean, and if your 'argument' holds water, totally nnecessary, to use other people's opinions to fight your battles. Your words, your opinions should be sufficient to present your case.

Kenny,
Come on mate. The answer is above. Take what you've written a stage further. Now, what do you do about mosquitoes? Pop on a bit of creme and hope for the best? Or are there any other strategies? Use your imagination. I can think of lots.........

Kenny - I agree with apple on this. One of the benefits of the CR is that we get to hear the "real" views of people from many different walks of life and views on life. I don't want to stop any of that, even when I disagree with the view (and even on my issues). You are free to read their posts, or not, and to reply to their posts, or not. Move on.

kenny you stink!

Well, I NEVER!

After all you and I have been through you go off and complain about another man! gryphon does this to me, and gryphon says that to me.

You don't even mention me bothering you ONCE in your post.

You've been two timing me all along. You don't even care how you make me feel, do you? It's all about yourself, always about yourself--how you feel. You never think about how you make me feel.

Now look--you've made me cry. \:\(

That's it for me--I'm not going to annoy you again! :p \:D

Ignore him, Kenny. Believe me, I've been where you are at now with a couple of other forum members and the itch eventually subsided. I'm fairly outspoken, and I continue to solicit what I, on occasion, consider to be personal and unwarranted jabs. I generally don't dignify them with a response. You've got lots of support here. Let the itch heal and die.

Wooooooo...this makes you look very childish. Seeking others to help you with the "bully". This is the internet, people clash, no one is immune to judgement.

You ought to delete this thread asap as it really makes you look pathetic.

C'mon, that happens all the time! ;\)

Otherwise, I generally agree with you. Ignore him as best as possible. I think gryphon brings a lot to the table, but as you know, I get my dander up when the comments veer off into what I consider to be cruel personal attacks. I believe that it's possible to have a passionate, opinionated forum without reverting to personal slurs. I've seen it happen, even right here in the good ol' CR.

I think everyone's just been listening to too much talk radio. It's the dumbing down of discourse.

Agreed. I think the "personal" part of it is what is bothering Kenny.

Kenny, remember, recently we all came to your defense when the line was crossed. Uhh, by some guy with "Pimp" in his name.

This forum is based on personal attacks. Kenny has on more than one occasion slammed "christians". I have read many catholics defending themselves. The right is under fire all the time as is the left. Kenny's homosexuality is as fair game as any other quality/characteristic/position that anyone else possesses. Why should he be handled with kid gloves when no one else has the same luxury?

Kenny has now started a dedicated thread to bring attention to the terrible treatment he has received from Gryphon. I have not yet seen Gryphon stoop to this level.

Excuse me! This forum is based on personal attacks? I beg to differ on that note. I for one have taken the stance on more than a couple of occasions that personal attacks denigrate the forum. Of late, it's been suprisingly civil and I think most of us have appreciated that.

PS IMO, attacking political groups or figures is not the same as personal attacks, and I can say with confidence that Kenny has never attacked anyone for their religion.

Pardon the pop pyschology, but that is exactly what kenny wants.

It is the basis for my "weird" comment the other day.

Important distinction: I separate political characterizations that may be exaggerated or sarcastic for humorous effect or emphasis(e.g. "You liberals/conservatives are idiots and the cause of the world's ruin.") from personal attacks (I won't give any examples, but we've seen them here sometimes.) Kenny's being gay may blur the line a bit, but Kenny has been an able defender of his views, and almost always gets lots of political support, and perhaps grudging respect from his critics. That's about all one can expect from an internet chat room.

The situation as I see it is this.

There are two kennys. The first is a decent guy, talks about cars and guitars and all kings of regular things and everybody enjoys his company. The other kenny is the one that gets on the "gay" thing. Not that there's anything wrong with the topic, (to a limit,) but the "gay" kenny is often a very difficult self opinionated person to deal with. No give and take there.

Anyone that doesn't agree with him is a bigot. Any religion that isn't backing the gay agenda is bigoted and full of hate. Anyone that doesn't agree with the gay agenda is a relic of a hurtful past that will be taken over and "reeducated" in kenny's new world order.

And unfortunately, kenny is a bit emotional about all of this, so he goes into his fits and howls and that could be annoying to some people--hay having one's religious belief's being trashed is annoying, so kenny upsets people.

Added to this kenny has a limited vocabulary and writing ability, so he can't really get his ideas out without using blunt cold statements. Not much nuance or humor in kenny's posts.

So at time kenny grates, a bit. People get upset at him. He gets upset back. Then he does one of his hissy fits like the one above.

I try to never attack him personally--he's too easy of a target, (I may send the bullets wizzing by his ears, but I don't actually shoot him--mostly, ;\) ) but I can see why others might. Nothing against kenny, I think he brings a lot to the Forum, but he has his limitations--as do we all. \:\)

As for gryphon--he's a really nice guy, but a no nonsense kind of guy--and with kenny there comes a lot of nonsense.

In the end it's just a personality thing. Let's all forget it and move on.

kathy read any number of your posts to Larry and Jolly and you will find many that contain insults. These are, I believe personal attacks. I would not say that you are a beacon of ability when it comes to seperating the issue from the person.
