justme...thinks are just fine, thanks for asking. I'm directing a musical at one of the high schools here. The schedule is about to do me in, but I do enjoy the kids.

I'm in your neighborhood every weekday right now apple...but if you blink, you might miss me. I am tearing back and forth between there and everywhere else.
Justme, we're doing Working. It is not my favorite piece but it's well suited to this group. Several of these kids are private students of mine. They're great kids. I don't know if I really need to do this gig again after this year, it really is kind of a scheduling nightmare. I think I'll get this batch graduated and retire. One of the reasons this time of year is so nuts for me is that it's contest and scholarship audition time for my voice students. They all want extra lessons and I play some of the auditions as well as the musical. I usually end up judging a couple of things also and doing master classes or clinics...it's just an important time for the musicians. I'm particularly proud of a couple of my senior girls. They have both gotten very nice scholarship offers from good schools. Makes me very happy and tickled for them. Hard hard workers. Both came to me with good instruments but significant vocal problems. They worked hard, did what I said and now they sing like angels. Healthy, easy, wonderful singing. I love that. Kids are cool. I wish I had more *energy*.

I'm not familiar with the piece you're working on but am glad to hear you're enjoying it. It's nice to know there's someone else out there experiencing the same happiness. BTW your pic *is* beautiful.

JF, your pictures are lovely. I especially like this one Y'all have already seen my photos of Dawn Beach on St. Maarten. That's definitely in the top five, along with these spots: Ornamental Gardens, Summerland, BC - atop a small mountain, with views of Okanagan Lake through the many gorgeous gardens. It's one of the most peaceful, beautiful special places I've ever been. And in my own back yard, Virginia's Skyline Drive through the Blue Ridge Mountains is almost heaven.

Justme, we're doing Working. My daughter did that musical last year - At the time I'd never heard of it, but I enjoyed it anyway. My daughter was Dede (waitress). She has a loud singing voice and somewhat drowned Delores out in the duet. What's funny is that many of the kids are now known by their character's job. And I agree Plays - great photos.

Hi ianihp,
I like Delores' song "It's an Art". We have six really good lady's voices and three really fine men. There are several parts in Working that play well enough when sung in a 'character' voice, so we should be all right. It's not a great show, but it's ok. It's amazing to me how many truly mediocre musicals there are in this world.
I do think Working is a good theatrical piece. This show gives a lot of kids an opportunity to have a nice chunk of singing and acting to do. That's nice...I have double cast shows in the past just to be able to involve more students. This year I didn't have to do that and that is a nice thing.

Been thinking about Bernard's answer to this question, and it's really closer to the truth for me than my own answer. For me, it's the company more than the location...I do *very much* enjoy beautiful scenery and climate, but they don't hold much charm without the right personnel.

The Kenai river in Alaska. The water is the most unbelievable color of turquois because of the glazier water. And the king salmon are huge!
