It was fabulous. It took FOREVER. I'm never doing it again. Or, if I do, I will do a few things differently.

I would make the almond praline, and the meringe mushrooms (which were ADORABLE) a day ahead of time. I would figure out some other way to incorporate the flour into the batter of the main cake besides sifting it on top, and then folding it in. That made for some some ugly white lumps in the cake. (I just poured extra bourbon syrup over the top of them, and that along with a good smathering of the chocolate praline cream made them mostly disappear.

Next time, I might skip the log part all together and just make a layer cake, and decorate that. Rolling and sculpting the log was an art in itself. I piped on some home-made green frosting, and used hard raspberry filled candies for extra decoration)

Wow Jodi !! -- That could be on the cover of Southern Living. A piece of art -- and edible. Save the pics in your recipe book, definitely !!

(.... or here's an idea: Use a pic as your avatar next Xmas)

I agree with Plays, but would point out that the "logical inverse" of her statement doesn't always hold water.
