My question now is if the Clintons will let him unravel to keep Hillary's options open for 2008? I do believe GWB holds some aces and if Kerry is forced to talk about any issues, he will not fare well.

A graph such as the one on this link should never show the lines for Kerry and Bush rising or falling together since there is always a constant number of total electoral votes. Yet, remarkably, that is just what it does for the last few days of August.

Obviously, 249 + 232 is less than the total number of electoral votes.
