I wish to express sympathy to all our American friends concerning the recent space accident. It's really a tragedy for the world and for science, of course, and New Zealanders have always had an interest in space because a Kiwi was director of NASA for so long. When I was at school, I remember, William Pickering used to make a point of visiting schools here during his leave to explain how orbits were calculated and what the next mission would be. I've no doubt that exploration will go on though.
