I've just seen an infomercial on this guy and I seriously think he personifies the antichrist. Anyways, I think what he is selling is a total rip and totally bogus. He seriously believes that his tapes can solve all of life's problems. Has anybody here ever listened to any of his tapes?? What exactly is he preaching about?..because if you see the infomercial, his seminars looks like a religious revival, where everybody is jumping up and down, almost like they are tranced. Is it me, or is this guy and his movement pretty creepy.

Who doesn't want some "Personal power"?!

Even if you do, these books/tapes are still a strange way to get it!

My questions to Tony are:

1) Were you born with that appendage that looks like a microphone protruding from the side of your head or did you get it surgically implanted later?

2) Did you dope up those high school students on your infomercial, or is their flat & dazed affect a result of one of your little "talks" with them?

Welcome to Tony Robbins' world. Assimilation is all, resistance is futile....

I agree, the guy creeps me out. Is anyone around here old enough to remember Werner Ehrhard (may not be spelled right), the leader of the est movement?

This dude is cut from the same creepy mold, imho.

Bottom line: transient "feel good" phenomenon that does not stick around, with very little compassion, mucho dinero in Tony's pocket.

After staring agape at his infomercial last night, I had to bump this for some more contemporary responses...

I remember back in college- a 'friend' gave me a copy of dianetics....I browsed, and then took a quick trip to the campus library and easily found enough info to know what a dangerous cult Scientology is- notice the tip-toeing around that fact in the media?

Interestingly (and I haven't the time to check out the library), try a google- this guy and his minions have PAGES locked up with nothing but plaudits and sales pitches!

Anyone ever look into this stuff?

Heck, perhaps someone here has had a positive experience and can disabuse me of my impressions! After all, if it's good enough for Leeza Gibbons, Fran Tarkenton and Quincy Jones.......

NPR had a lengthy story about infomercials this weekend. Tony Robbins was one of the BIG WINNERS.

A lot of that hyped up oversold approach turns many people off, and quite justifiably. If you're curious, try a low-key approach and check out some books on NLP (neurolinguistic programming) from the library. You might find one written in a way that works for you. I found Bandler to be quite interesting.

Well raise my rent!

First Jolly admits to listening to NPR (only he calls it NCR for "National Communist Radio" ;\) ) and now it turns out that Gryphon listens to NPR as well?

Do the Dittoheads get angry when they learn you've been cheatin' on 'em?

hmmmmm, that's certainly a "shoot your own foot" perspective.

Seems to me what you point out, is that they listen to NPR as well as the "dittohead" perspective, and then have their views, rather than someone like you (at least based on your comment above) that listen only to one side.

Is that what you meant??

Is it?

Listening is not necessarily understanding.

It is however, a good start.

I agree that Tony Robbins is a rabid fanatic who is creating something akin to a religious cult. I have always thought he was about as creepy as they come.

I also agree that proof has been shown in this thread that the "dittoheads" are the only ones who look at both sides before making a decision..... \:D ;\)

Can everyone say "PT Barnum?"

There are so many charlatans on TV -- lifestyle charlatans, political charlatans, pschological charlatans, religious charlatans, legal charlatans.

Robbins in no worse than any of the others -- and in some ways better.
