JF, Matt is in New Mexico on vacation. Hope he's enjoying a fine meal of southwest cuisine while there...

Small eye roast beef, served with horshradish on the side, studded with garlic slices, baked yukon gold potatoes (choice of yogurt, butter or -my favorite--just pepper), salad of baby greens with raspberry vinegrette, fresh sliced tomatoes from the garden, portabello mushrooms sauteed in butter, and a nondescrpt merlot that I already opened and is not something I will buy again (but it will do).

Apple I have done the same thing for the last ten years and then last year, after processing all the basil and packing my baggies, I felt really sick..almmost as though the basil (which IS very strong) gave me some toxic reaction, and after that I really didn't want to eat it for almost a year. Recently gave a dozen baggies of frozen pesto to a friend who was cooking for her whole church--I just wanted to get rid of it.

I am starting to enjoy it again, but only grew two plants this year, so there won't be much to process.

Kitchen time for you on a Sunday night? As if. Let me hold my breath.

Chicken pieces marinated in tamari, lemon juice and (lots of) garlic. Baked in same with basting every five minutes. Thinly sliced grown-by-me cukes in balsamic vingar and salt. Steamed broc. Thai chili flavored noodles (ok, I admit, a package, but very good, and I wouldn't even mention this meal if I had not been slandered!)

So there.

PS. I love my wife very much.

Family Chicken Feud Turns to Gun Battle
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Published: September 29, 2004
Filed at 11:07 a.m. ET

BLUEWELL, West Virgina (AP) -- A family meal erupted into a gun battle after a father and son clashed over how to cook chicken.

The two men argued Sunday over the best way to prepare skinless chicken for dinner.

``It started out as a physical confrontation, but it escalated until both of them were shooting at each other,'' Detective Sgt. A.D. Beasley of the Mercer County Sheriff's Department said Monday.

Beasley said each man fired a .22-caliber handgun at the other. Harley Shrader was struck by a bullet that went through the upper part of his right ear and lodged in the back of his head. He was treated at a hospital and released. The elder Shrader was not injured.

Jackie Lee Shrader, 49, was charged with malicious wounding and wanton endangerment. Harley Lee Shrader, 24, was charged with wanton endangerment.

Actually, I have a similar violent reaction to chicken (except Southern Fried ;\) )

P.S. barbequed Porterhouse steak (including the fillet) tonight, plus corn on the cob (swimming in butter) and tomato salad. \:\)

Actually my chili is excellent.. I add 1 bunch of chopped cilantro, a couple tablespoons of freshly ground dill seed (grow it) with 2 kinds of peppers arbol chilis and bigger green ones, kind of hot - not sweet, plenty of tomatoes, beans, ground meat, garlic cumin.

I remember the first time I ordered a bowl of chili at a horse show in Texas. I just got a bowl of meat, no beans! I've learned a lot since then.

I'm giving Matt's pot roast a shot, since JF never did and I have a skinny college boy home for the week in need of fattening. I blush to say, however, it is non-gourmand style. Didn't have fresh herbs, so using dry and can't find caraway seeds in my pantry, but never much cared for them anyway. Plenty of red wine, though! So, we'll see - I'll report back.

An Amish dish -- noodles and chicken with mushrooms, celery, carrots and a sauce made with chicken stock and milk and topped with shredded parmesan cheese.
