I accidently posted this on the pianist corner and Apple gave some excellent advice.
Was just wondering what you all think of the less invasive plastic surgical technigues that are now spreading like wild-fire across the country such as Botox, collagen injections, dermabrasion, photorejuvination, pulsed-dye laser, cool laser, etc.
I'm considering opening, or joining the staff of, one of these day spas where they basically pamper you for a day or weekend.(massage, hair styling, manicure, pedicure, mud baths, whatever you can think of)
The trend now is for physicians to offer some of these anti-aging techniques at these spas and then call them "medi-spas".
My question really is, what do you all think of these spas and would you use them.
Apple already gave some great advice(as always) on whether or not I should pursue such an endeavour. Basically, it would be sort of a side job to allow for extra time to "play". And NO I'm not a money-hungry, materialistic doctor looking to get rich.
I appreciate any input.

I am not sure what this really involves but I get the impression these types of clinics/spas are similar to the European sanatoriums that have been around for ages. A combination of R&R and medical attention in a bucolic setting. If you have ever read Thomas Mann's The Magic Mountain you'll understand what I mean. Am I right?

Sound's groovy Baaaby, (In my best Autin Power's impression).
But doesn't the clock just keep on ticking?

How about spas that provide some psychotherapy to help us make peace with our ultimate and natural fate?

On the other hand, go for it.
You'll get rich!

Of all Mann's novels, Magic Mountain, was the least appealing to me. Perhaps it was because the book deals with the myriad of conflicting ideas and philosophical issues that were prevalent in German society on the eve of WWI. I just did not know enough about, or had suffcient interest , to delve into them. I think I made it about half way too before shelving the novel for future reading.

Never read anything by Pynchon.

Nice sideline, but consider the liability problems, and make sure you CYA.

As you are well aware, even minor procedures can sometimes have problems.

The optom my wife worked for at one time did the permanent eyeliner, and a few other minor cosmetic procedures around the eyes. It didn't replace his regular income, but it did provide a few extra bucks.

Thanks Jolly for the suggestions...have already made a deal with the malpractice insurer. Was pleasantly surprised by how little they want from me.
My own personal view on cosmetic procedures is that if it makes YOU feel better about yourself and you have the extra bucks, well then go for it. I mentioned my plans to a nurse in the ER and she, without hesitation, told me that wants collagen injected into her upper lip, a breast job, and liposuction on her thighs and tummy.
Well if you could only see this complete babe of a woman. eek She don't neeed nothing! And I told her so. She said, "Well, I'm doing it for ME." BTW she weighs 112 lbs...can't be too much cellulite there, I don't think.

Personally, I'm in favor of breast augmentation for women. The bigger the better.

My best breast augmentation story: I was the sponsor, then godfather of a former Penthouse Pet through her conversion to Catholicism. During the time of her cathechesis, she had her HUGE silicone implants changed to HUGE saline implants.

The implants didn't heal correctly so she asked me to pray for them and then asked if it wasn't too much trouble, would I lay my hands on them while I prayed.

Personally I think people who go for optional plastic surgery have their priorities in the wrong place. Sorry. On the other hand my feelings on the matter are not that strong. If someone has the money and desire who am I to say they shouldn't do it. It's their life. Still, some young people have the desire and money to split their tongues, pierce their eye brows, and tattoo their bodies. Should we tell them they shouldn't do it? Coming from a poor background as I do, there was not much money to spend on "beautification" and I'm glad it doesn't play a major role in my life. I think people are beautiful as they are. If I were a woman I would not want to be loved for a blob of plastic I could afford to host under my skin. And I do not like some foreign material coming between me and the one I love either. Guess I'm an old fogey on some issues.

Johnmoonlight,

You asked for others' opinions of these procedures/techniques, but what is most important is your opinion, b/c you are the MD considering joining this practice.

For what it's worth, I believe if you feel these therapies are useful, beneficial, therapeutic, etc., and you can honestly promote them as such, you should considering working at this "medi-spa". However, if you doubt the benefits of these procedures, you risk compromising your beliefs by participating in this field of medicine.
