I'm off down the local for a couple of hours-gig.
Please don't talk about anything interesting while I'm gone and if you do, try to steer away from the intellectual stuff as it's free beer tonight. All the best,

Lucy,
Now you know the party ends when you leave this joint...
Is it free Guiness? I'll be there if I can make it in time!

Da beer drinkin' beauty done left this town,
In a haste, displaced, to where the Guiness goes down.
My heart lies in tatters till she comes back home,
With passion in her eyes and, on her lips, Guiness foam.

I must be the luckiest girl alive Lucian. The pub I've been playing at is 3 and a half minutes from where I live. It was full of people that I know and apart from the odd weirdo it was a good night.
Some bloke asked me if we did a song called mumblemumble something unintelligible cannibal. Does that ring any bells with anyone?

Lucy, let me connect a few dots for you....Ever since you published your photos, there's a few blokes around here who haven't been the same!

Good thing I'm immune to the charms of pretty women--other than my pretty wife of course.

John,
I copied this from a previous post to chickgrand some time back. I've added a couple that I couldn't remember at the time and added the writer or performer.

Chickgrand:

quote:
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lucy,
I've been curious ever since you debuted here--what all kinds of pieces do you do as singer? What are your favorites? What kinds of places do you play?
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chickgrand: Below is a list of songs I butcher on a regular basis in pubs along the southwest coast of England............

Till There Was You The Beatles
This Guy's In Love With You Bacharach
You Won't See Me The Beatles
House of Bamboo Earl Grant
Perhaps Cake/Doris Day
Walk On By Bacharach
Temptation The Everly brothers
You're Nobody Till Somebody Loves You Nat King Cole
Guilty (Very old song. An old bloke started crying a couple of weeks ago when we did that. Not sure if it was the song or me though..........)
Hazy Shade of Winter Simon and Garfunkel
Winter Long Neil Young
Sick and Tired The Cardigans
All I Really Wanna Do Bob Dylan/The Byrds
Rainy Days And Mondays The Carpenters
Superstar same
All Of Me can't remember
I've Got You Under My Skin can't remember
Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend Marilyn Monroe
The Look of Love Bacharach
Spooky can't remember
You Can't Do That The Beatles
We Can Work It Out same
Cathy's Clown The Everly brothers
Days The Kinks
It Won't Be Long The Beatles
Momentum Aimee Mann
Save Me same
Waiting For A Superman Flaming Lips
Here Comes My Baby Cat Stevens
Only Love Can Break Your Heart Neil Young
Heart Of Gold same
Harvest Moon same
Close To You The Carpenters
Fixing A Hole The Beatles
Son of a Preacher Man Dusty Springfield
One Harry Nillson
Dead Melodies Beck
Don't Let The Sun Catch You Crying same
Barry Town Steely Dan
It Wouldn't Have Made Any Difference Todd Rundgren
Wonderous Place Billy Fury

You Curse At Girls Fountains of Wayne
Springtime For Hitler Mel Brooks
Nothing's Ever Gonna Stand In My Way Wilco
Act Naturally The Beatles
Receptacle For The Respectable Super Furry Animals

The last section my playing partner Alan sings and I harmonise-which he does on mine aswell.
There are plenty I've forgotten to list because I 'm hopeless at remembering song titles. I can remember the tunes, but what they're called?
Lucy \:\)

P.S. Apologies to music lovers for wrong spellings and failure to remember composers/performers

What a neat, varied list. I have always loved Superstar (and as a young rock n roller would never have admitted it).

'Spooky' is by Classics IV I recall--a two hit wonder band with the follow-up (soundalike) 'Stormy.'

I think the version I got was off an Andy Williams album.
Now how much of a confession is that?
I'm blushing at my computer.
Seriously.

Lucy, I love your list of songs. How about Brown Eyed Girl by Van Morrison?

behind the stadium...With you, my brown-eyed girl..."

"The bats are in the belfry
the dew is on the moor
where are the arms that held me
and pledged her love before
and pledged her love before

It’s such a sad old feeling
the fields are soft and green
it’s memories that I’m stealing
but you’re innocent when you dream
when you dream
you’re innocent when you dream

Running through the graveyard
we laughed my friends and I
we swore we’d be together
until the day we died
until the day we died

I made a golden promise
that we would never part
I gave my love a locket
and then I broke her heart
and then I broke her heart T

Oh crikey no.
I'm just nuts over Captain Beefheart. Have been since I was 13 and a visiting cousin played me When I See Mommy ( I Feel Like A Mommy) from Shiny Beast. I like a huge variety of singers but there's not many songwriters whose words I'm crazy about. Beck and Captain Beefheart are the exceptions. As far as *feel* singers go I think Captain Beefheart is in a class of his own. I find Trout Mask Replica too much to listen to in one sitting to be honest with you but Shiny Beast is probably one of my all time favourite albums. \:\)

I like that Beck song as well. What does your voice sound like? (Does it sound like any famous singers?)

I wish! I'm a pub singer John. My voice is probably what people would describe as pleasant to listen to.

Apple,
Your last edit made the reply a bit confusing!

Are you referring to "Guilty" sung by Bonnie Raitt? Love love LOVE that tune!

------------------------
Guilty
Randy Newman
WB Music Corp & Randy Newman - ASCAP

Yeah baby, I've been drinking, and I shouldn't come by I know
But I found myself in trouble darling, and I had nowhere else to go

Got some whiskey from a bar man, got some cocaine from a friend
I just had to keep on moving, till I was back in your arms again
----
Well I'm guilty, yeah I'm guilty, I'll be guilty for the rest of my life
How come I never do, what I'm supposed to do
How come nothing that I try to do ever turns out right
----
Well you know how it is with me baby, you know I just can't stand myself
It takes a whole lot of medicine, for me to pretend to be somebody else.
