What an amazing performer though.

I was never a big fan of Dolly Parton until I heard this CD.

"Mountain Angel" (she wrote it) is hauntingly beautiful - can't get it out of my head.

Steve: Is Dolly doing more Bluegrass on that disc? I have a previous one of hers on which she is almost exclusively Bluegrass. I really like that one too. I think a friend of mine has the one you posted- if I recollect correctly I enjoyed it. I guess at the stage of her career she can do whatever she pleases.

It's about half bluegrass, and about half what you might call "mountain" or "folk" music.


She actually says that on the Heartsongs CD - now that she doesn't need the money any more she can do the songs that she likes. That might be the one you have, or perhaps her other Bluegrass one - "The Grass is Blue."

I like the trend toward improved production quality on bluegrass CD's. I know it's not traditional, but modern multi-track recordings can really being out the harmonies without burying the individual musicians. The move to better vocalists hasn't hurt either .

Dolly's part of a trio on one track of this CD, you might like it, too:




She does George Jones' "Where Grass Won't Grow" along with Emmylou Harris and Trisha Yearwood - a beautiful blending of voices. The most memorable line on that CD though, is where Keith Richards (it's a compilation of various people doing George Jones songs) says he feels like "A pig in a room full of angels."

That's kinda how he sounds, too.

One of my favorite albums of all time.

Best MAF performance on "Saturday Night Special"... MAF stoned out of her mind and the Ziggy--David Bowie singing "I Got You Babe."

Oddly, that Saturday Night Special show had a seminal influence on my life...now out to dinner...Telephone--in the East Village.

Mine, too.

Yup. It's pure gold.

I just dropped this in the changer. I'm zonked. And this is a great album to play while drifting off.
