Blackmore's Night, "Live: Past Times with Good Company" Ritchie Blackmore was the original gutarist for Deep Purple. Now in his old age he has turned to more traditional acoustic music with a Medieval/Renaissance feel. A bit like Pentangle and other Brit folk/rock bands of the 60's. Very listenable and not without that distnct "Purple" edge. ;\)

Believe it or not I am a survivor of not one but three live DP concerts. The first concert I saw predated Machine Head and the notorius Smoke on the Water. Blackmore was approaching his prime and to watch him play was like watching a Martial Arts display with a wall of sound. I've often thought that his contribution to the art of the electric guitar is all too often forgotten. IF you have ever heard an interview with him that too is interesting. He speaks more like an Oxford Don than an originator of heavy metal guitar.

Lonnie Liston Smith: Live! on vinyl recorded 1977. Still sounds as good today as the concert over 25 years ago!

Dear gryphon,

With Claire de Lune, I've pretty much decided that what's on the CD and what on the piano are two different songs.

I've done several classical power searches and I can't find this CD on amazon, kluurs. What's the URL?

Iron Butterfly: In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida

I could post an entire thread based upon this one album alone.

Gryphon:

When you post the pictures do you edit the page in Word and insert the picture that way? I've been experimenting but have yet to come up with a way getting anything other than verbage into my relpies.

You just put the picture's URL in between

Don't include any spaces. You don't need Word or anything else, just the jpg or gif file.

As you can see I get most of the CD pictures from amazon.com, hence the 17% off blurbs sometimes. Right now I'm listening to Craig Chaquico: Once in a Blue Universe. If I put the CD image URL

http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000003YXJ.01._PE12_SCMZZZZZZZ_.jpg

inside those img brackets, you'll see

Hey, that looks interesting. I might have to check that CD out myself (which is one reason for this thread, to share good music). \:D

He's a bit like an Aussie/Brit Johnny Winter with an Alvin Lee feel. I like the tune "The Bottle" track #2 on the disc. Be forwarned though, its pretty seering slide.

Now that I've learned how to do this picture thing: Martin Simpson Bootleg USA
folk singer and acoustic slide player extraordinaire: Celtic and Blues (plays his own arrangemnts of Dylan's "61 Highway" and Willie Dixon's "Spoonful" that'll blow your socks off!) Lot's of alternate tunings. Definitely one of my favourites.

Am I the only one left here? I won't stay alone. But while I'm here...

Los Lobos: Kiko

But the day started out with a limited edition direct-to-disc gem from 1978:

As you can see I like Muse \:D Matt Bellamy (the lead singer, guitar player) is also a pianist. Listen to his "Piano Thing" (it's an improvisation)... Awesome.
As for classics...
Chopin - Nocturnes and Waltzes.
