Received this reminder from someone else that received a telemarketing call on their cell phone today.
 
In a few weeks, mobile phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sale calls.  You will be charged for these calls.

Don't you think that one should be able to legally beat the crap out of anyone who calls you unsolicited like this and it costs you money? Who gave them permission to cost us money? I'm off the Ma Bell umbilical cord. We're totally cellular, and now we gotta get spam phone calls, too.

What about the M0-Call lists?

Can you list yourself on these to deflect the calls on cellular phones?

I would be LIVID if the garbage calls I sometimes get COST me to listen to these clowns.

I've only received one telemarketer call to my cell phone. About a month or two ago. I figured it was just dialing through a sequential list of numbers. I've now registered my other cell phone.

Per FCC regulations, telemarketers are already prohibited from calling cell phone numbers using automated dialers, which are standard in the industry.

This is a netlore topic that has been going around since last year. It seems that cell phone numbers will become available to people that access a directory and pay a fee, through 411.

What is a cell phone number, 1911? We switched our land line number over to a cell phone. As far as I know there are no distinctions any more.

Does an automated dialer know this?

Good question...I think it is the telemarketers' responsibility to determine this. If it is an FCC regulation, someone must be able to figure it out. I never get telemarketing calls on my cell phone, but still do at home even though I am on the state and federal do not call list.

I don't know why nobody sets up a telecom network structure that allows the receiver of calls to collect a fee. If you call me, you pay a fee unless I waive the fee. Waiving the fee would be usual and customary with friends and family...give me one of those where I can charge $100/hour and I say bring on the telemarketers.

Except that telemarketers are exempt from the DNC restriction if they've done business with you in the past 12 months or if they are an NFP. All of the calls that I receive fall within those categories, but still annoying.
