Recently went down to Emmanuel and Sons to have a look at their pianos. The upright Steinway seemed quite nice, really sweet, deep bass. Anyone had a look at the condition? laugh

Hi

I've tuned a 131 model once. The bass is powerful, the rest of the sections are nice too.

Is someone selling it?
If price is resonable, u can consider it.

If you ever get a KS, it'll be good to get your tuner a couple of Redbull n yoko-yoko smile

1st hand or 2nd hand?
-usually new piano price drops more after a few yrs
-2nd hand, if you buy at good price, you might just loss abit when resell.

Hi whitelies,
If I read your previous posts correctly, you are more inclined towards the K5 right? And you're shopping for first-hand? Haha...anyway,one difference between Kawai Pianos and Yamahas is that Kawai uses plastic parts for the action mechanism whereas Yamaha uses wood which is more costly to produce hence, the touch is perceived to be better.

I am not sure if Yamaha wooden parts are more costly to produce than Kawai's ABS part. I read somewhere in this forum (from Don or Bear I guess) that ABS is in fact more expensive than traditional wooden parts.
There's no strong evidence shows that ABS part is superior than wooden parts but there's evidence that ABS is less affected by humidity than woods.

yea yea , i am more inclined towards k5 than u1 . Generally, both are fine to me as both pianos does not cost more than 10k. In terms of their material being used ,i got no idea about it.

Hi Whitelies,

Since you have already stated your preference for K5, then you should go for it. Both Kawai and Yamaha are equally good in terms of quality.

Good luck

Just wondering if there is a decline of piano music making here in the heartland ??

Back in 1986, i use to bicycle or rollerskate at Mayflower Estate. I live in the tomato HDB and frequent cross over from Blk131 to Blk101, Mayflower happens to be in between. I often hear piano music being played at many houses, and pretend to cycle slower to listen. Hehe, why i'm talking this shortcut route? to me my cycling gang lah. Upper pierce swmming, catch fish ....

At HDBs flats, i hear less. My old neighbour use to play at certain time of the day and i would tuned in for free music. That's when the bug got me.

Back then, i guess there were no SCV and internet..

Now, its good to hear some of my neighbour started learning piano. There are occaional practise, during evenings and weekends, but no Chopin or Bach yet.

Just like to make a survey:
What makes this instrument so magical, desirable, and enjoyable?
-Is it self interest driven?
-Mom just wants me to learn when i was young, now i want my daughter to learn too, like tradition?
-it brings inner peace?
-burns calories ??
-i hope it's not "show off to neighbours" smile

Whew! Finally finish reading the 70 pages of posting.

Hi All,
I’m new to this forum. I’m the typical no-music background parent looking for an acoustic piano for my 7 yrs old child who has been learning the piano for 7 months now. Son has been bugging me for a piano, practicing on digital keyboard now, gets to tinkle on Sauter during lesson as teacher uses that.

Sorry to be boring you all on this but hope you can give me your views. Would like to get a new piano ( coz hubby no comfortable with 2nd hand); considering these model:
1. Yamaha UI( $8.6 k X’mas promo)
2. Kawai K3 ($7.8k at Robert P after discount)
3. Yamaha YM5 ( $ 6.3k X’mas promo)
4. Wilhelm Tell 125 bern??? ( $ 5.3k special X’mas promo)

My considerations for the piano are these:
1. Even if my child decides to give up piano after grade 5 or so, the piano should still serve for a good leisure playing to his teenage years.
2. When he gets to higher grades and is really passionate about it, I would be willing to upgrade his piano. The 1st piano should have some resale value.
3. Read somewhere in the thread, that the piano should good so as to inspire the child, yet, I do not want ‘overdo” as he’s really a beginner. Like providing Subaru to a beginner driver. ( Hence, not sure if it make sense to get a 2nd hand model of high specs like 2nd kawai 132, 25yrs, $4.9k).

Hope to have good balance. 8k is my budget will stretch a bit more if UI is really worth it.

Was told that Wilhelm Tell is not even captured as a piano manufacturer in the Piano Book by a sales person , and that it did not have a continuous history of producing pianos. But from the various posts in PW, the review on the tone seems pretty good. So what’s the verdict on this piano, it’s soo much cheaper than Yamaha & kawai. Teacher also recommended this but many others advised against it.

Lastly, to all the adult beginners here, really pei fu by your passion and enthusiasm in learning piano, I’m really inspired to pick up piano playing myself once I get the piano.

Thank you & cheers

Between the aforementioned models, I would narrow down to U1 or K3; both are 121cm.

So, as you would know, it really depends on which sound (tone) and feel (touch of the keys) appeal to you. Both should be fairly similar in performance and value, although the Yamahas DO fetch better resale value in Singapore (more amateurs know about Yamaha than Kawai).

That said, both the U1 and K3 are very good upright pianos.

If you’re set on the U1 OR K3, then you should check out the reputation of the Yamaha and Kawai dealers in Singapore. There’s much to be known, you know?

Choose the best dealer, since BOTH the U1 and K3 are GOOD pianos.

You MUST read this classic thread on the dealer's piano preparation. The piano MUST be prep by the dealer PRIOR to purchase and delivery.

http://www.pianoworld.com/ubb/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?/topic/16/41.html

In Singapore, you get the following prep from certain dealers:

A wipe down with a piece of cloth PLUS Tuning PLUS nothing.

BEWARE!

That explains why some pianos sound like you're playing it in a pool.

Hi ppp, thanks for the advice. Thought new yamaha pianos are sold only in yamaha, and kawai at robert piano?

On the dealer piano prep, read the link, it seems like a very quite thorough work is required. Is this the std practice here. How does one know if its done? At Robert P at Millenia, the sales lady mention the new piece kawai k3 would be a black polished not in the showroom. Do I have to ask to see to actual piece I'm getting? Do they entertain this?

Hope someone coudl share if when are the promotional season for kawai pianos. Feel quite rush to get it now.

Still curious abt Wilhelm Tell.

Dear all,

Just wanted to send a post to thank all those who have shared with me your views and advices. Really appreciates it. Yesterday, I finally made a decision and I bought a new Hailun HL-125.

I am so happy and can't wait for it to be delivered to my house.

But well, very sad that my dear Schubert needs to leave me now after having it for 8.5 years. For anyone, who is interested to have the Schubert, let me know asap. PM me please. I am giving away for free. Else PianoMaster will take it anyway.
