I met a very kind dealer today...

He carries only three brands of grands : Kawai, Bösendorfer and Fazioli...guess which one is in my budget! :p

He let me play the three brands as much as I wanted - a very intersting experience indeed :

Kawai RX3 (before playing the others...) : OK, exactly as you can expect a Kawai to touch and sound;
Bösendorfer (round 180cm) : very light touch but still with control (nicely regulated) - pretty sounding;
Fazioli F183 : this is the one I want! Perfect touch, really different than everything else I've tried so far! The piano was playing by itself! Now, I understand what the people on this forum mean by 'when you will find your piano, you will immediatly know it's him (her?)'
Funny to notice that it's serial number was...1008 while Fazioli is in the business since 1985...compare to the 130.000 pianos made by Kawai each year!
Kawai RX3 (after playing the others) : muddy sound, sloppy touch...

Seriously, I'm really depressed now! I thought I liked the Kawais and now I know that it is not true anymore...

Do you have any advice on alternative brands carrying models feeling a little bit more like a premium piano - for approx 15.000$? Am I dreaming?

Hans

I made the mistake of playing an expensive piano.
I did not quite sell my soul to the devil, but I found a way to buy it.
I don't regret it.

But then when I played a Fazioli . . . Yikes. . . my thoughts turned to crime.

Don't play those.

For $15,000 try the Estonia.
I was amazed how good they sound / feel at any price.

Normally, I would suggest trying out a PG185 or a JP175. But big, bad Larry will beast on me if I do. :p :p

Naw, you're safe Steve. Larry might rec't trying one as well. There's also the used/partially rebuilt/rebuilt market. Not sure what that's like in Belgium!

Since unlike me, Hans clearly knows how to play, that seems like a good route to go. He'll be able to pick out what he likes and then get a tech to check it out.

Steve:

Not really.

For a good 'beasting' I was asked to set the ROTTWEILER loose.....

But he's licking his tail.

He already had another piano salesman for breakfast......

Norbert, If that Rottweiler is licking at the base of his tail, he is probably just trying to get the bad taste of that salesman out of his mouth!

Fazioli F183 was listed 45.000 € (=45.000$) all taxes included - There is probably a bargaining margin of 20-30% - taxes account for 21% of the price
From what I've heard off forum, this is a very good price compared to what it would cost in the US (but still more than twice of what I can afford \:\( )

Regards
Hans
