I've been there before and loved it. I don't like to travel, but I think I'll have a good time there.

It's a beautiful place. You will love it. It's even better in the dead of winter when the rest of the US is freezing and you are sunning your body on a beach!

Have fun.

OK - this is really weird. I'm leaving for Bermuda tomorrow (Tuesday) for 2 weeks at my sister's house up in Somerset with my wife and kids!

CJQuinn - why such a short trip?? (come on - nobody goes to Bermuda on business!!)Be sure and try Henry VIIIth at the top of the hill - popular late night watering hole with locals. And try the Reefs for dinner - highly recommended. Waterlot Inn also used to be a good dining spot.

We stayed right near there but never got to the place. We had a great time, but Bermuda is not quite the paradise I remember. Much more harried and not nearly as friendly as it was 12 years ago. Far more vehicles and ablsolutely lawlessly insane, passing on blind turns on a motorscooter at 2x the speed limit while talking on a cell phone (yes, on the motor-cycles steering with one hand). Really crazy stuff. And remember, I motorcycle, moped, scooter and bicycle in Brooklyn NY almost every day, so I have some concept of crazy driving.

Spectacular beauty almost everywhere you look, though. I'd definitely go back there, just with a little lower expectations.

Well yeah, the busses and scooter drivers are all maniacs.

At least tell me you made the obligatory trip to the Swizzle Inn.

Since there are 25,000+ cycles on the island and hundreds of buses, this is surely a big problem. NOte that my perception that things have gotten worse was confirmed by some life-long locals and the published fact that Bermuda has 6 times more accidents per square mile than any place else in the world. ( source: http://www.bermuda-online.org/wheels.htm ).

We did not get to the Swizzle Inn, where is it? We eat very well and very inexpensively in NYC, so the vacation was not about grand dining. Since mediocre pub food costs about 50 bucks for a lunch for 2 (with tip, and NO drinks), I don;t think we could have afforded any grand dining.

Glad to hear you had a good time and arrived home safely, CJ.

Did you look up Webster Furbert while you were there?? wink

Here's some reminders for you pianobrit:

Falling asleep to the sound of whistling frogs.
Body surfing at Horseshoe Bay.
Rinsing the sand out of your swimsuit afterwards.
Wobbly tourists on mopeds (mobylettes when I was a kid).
The feel of dried salt on you back while wearing a T shirt (must be the saltiest water in the western hemispehere).
Driving what feels like a go-kart on the left side of the road.
Cars with no power steering.
Dudes wearing hats under their crash helmet.
The "no crash helmets" sign at Miles.
Toads!
Grape soda.
Soggy paper.
Cowpollies.
The sound of wind through a casuarina tree.

International business:

Since the 1980s almost 75% of Fortune 500 companies have a presence here.

Bermuda is one of the top 3 strongest insurance hubs in the world, and now boasts 1,600 insurers handling premiums in excess of $49 billion a year.

Tourism hardly compares!

I was surprised to read that IB has passed tourism recently. That's a swell thing for their economy!
