I guess dating ain't what it used to be. ************************ The Transportation Security Administration removed a screener from Newark Liberty International Airport in February, and scheduled retraining, after a passenger reported that she had inadvertently been allowed to pass a checkpoint with a butcher knife in her purse. The passenger, Katrina Bell, 27, was not charged with a crime because she had merely forgotten about the knife, having put it there earlier in the week before heading out on a "blind date."

A butcher knife to a blind date? Some people are desparate. Or maybe they just went to a steak house.

hmm blind dates.. could be interesting. Of course, that is how my parents met, so it must work out sometimes! Airport security is a little weird... Since 9/11 they haven't had any real silverware in first class, because people could use things as weapons... but when you think about it they'd have to ban all writing utensils and a heck of a lot of other stuff to really get rid of all 'dangerous objects.'

Quidam - that's weird because I'm sure I remember, when flying from Heathrow - LA - Fiji, they gave us glass wine glasses and metal forks, and we weren't even in first class. I just remember thinking that I could have stabbed someone with the fork, only I didn't even want to joke about it because of what "The Stupidest Girl in the World" did - do you remember that? It may not have been in your news; some girl from England "joked" three times that she had a bomb in her backpack.. And this was after 9/11.. Sorry about the lengthy ramble!

O my GOSH that is "the stupidest girl in the world" I didn't hear about that. hmm interesting that you guys got real silverware. Maybe we just got jipped! Or maybe it's more the American airlines that are taking the silverware out... strange indeed.

I saw an older lady have her knitting needles taken away during a search.
I guess they were worried she might knit an Afghan.

All that stuff is at the discretion of the screeners. A few weeks ago my wife took several pairs on board four flights. One pair was metal and huge, at least 12" long and 3/8" diameter. But we knew that they might be confiscated.
