Of course I am, right now im working on some learning music books (Thanks Pegg!) so that I can read it for a first start. I think once I learn to read it it'll all be down hill from there. Because at the moment opening the music books kind of discourage a person! Haha, my friend said thats it easy to read, and so far I find its in fact fairly easy to learn!

Thanks Everyone!! \:\)

Good Man Brad! You'll be playing like an old pro in no time at all. I bet it's like a dream playing on that new piano after playing on that tiny keyboard all this time, huh?

Keep up the good work - we're all pulling for you! \:\)

Brad,

Do you have a teacher in mind for studying?

Or are you attempting to learn on your own?

I would highly recommend a teacher and taking things one step at a time, and not try to 'do it all' in one week. Teachers can demostrate, suggest a method of learning, encourage, and set a pace which is reasonable for anyone to learn, yet also give you some room for exploration on your own. I wish I were near you to give you some foundation lessons!

We are thinking of you! LL

Lily,
I had thought about a teacher, My aunt and cousin actually are taking piano lessons from the same teacher. So I thought about joining up with them, I am home schooled so It would be possible for me to self teach myself. I have self teached myself with computers, but I know that a piano is much different then computers. But so far the only issues that are basic is remembering how to read music, It will take some time I suppose.

Thanks \:\)

It's my first contribution to this forum, so let me start with a friendly hallo to all of you.

I came to this forum some months ago to gather helpful information about buying a digital piano. As I am generally more of the silent-reader-type, I haven't written anything here yet.

But reading Brad's story, I couldn't resist any more. I'm totally amazed by the generousity and the efforts of the members of this board. Just look at Brad's beaming smile and the pure joy in his eyes! You all must feel richly rewarded.

You are truly great people!

Best regards form Germany,
J.Ones

What a heart-warming story ! I'm almost crying !
If I had found this thread sooner, I would have been willing to send some money too.

Brad looked pretty motivated from the start, but now I'm sure practising will be a pleasure on such a nice piano. Congratulations to everyone who participated, what you've done is impressive, really.

Brad,

I'm a beginner too. I found this web site from a post here on PF a while ago. I found it really helpful in learning to sight read. Check out the "trainer" excercises, especially the note and key trainers. It's kind of like looking at flash cards. Very helpful for quickly recognizing notes and keys. http://www.musictheory.net/

Congrats on the new piano. You have a lot of new friends here who really believe in you.

Brad,
I'm sure you and many PW contributors may be interested to know that Sally Phillips is not just your regular local piano tuner/technician. She is a concert technician of the highest caliber, a tuner to the stars, and probably one of the best technicians in the country. I sure hope she pencilled her initials and the date on the back of key #1. That in itself has huge value!
[Sorry to out you, Ms. Phillips... \:o ]

Goodness, Jurgen, thanks for the kind words. I just wish my horses here on the farm were aware of my .... celebrity? They might be a bit more respectful before they take off like a rocket with me.

Just in case you PW'ers don't know who Jurgen is; he imports the most wonderful piano technician's tools and supplies such as really soft felt and tightly woven cloth. His booth is my favorite at the piano tech conventions. I had a whole slew of voicing tools that I have retired since buying one with adjustable needles from Jurgen.

Thanks again for your comments.

Sally

What a remarkable thread.

I totally missed it in 2007. I am so proud of Piano World and wish Brad in Kentucky the best as the future unfolds.
