Hi everyone,

I was just wondering what everyones IQ is........

I went to a site called www.iqtest.com

It wrote a little timed test and it said that my IQ was 132 which I think was around genius.

I do not know how acurate it is though.

That's an interesting site. (Not commenting on your score --> but my own:) I wonder if the idea is to give people higher scores in hopes that they will then want to buy a plaque that states such. After all, why would I want to buy a plaque for my office that confirms I'm a borderline moron? \:D

My score was unrealistically high, I know I'm not that smart! \:D But this does bring up something I was thinking about earlier just this morning:

I was watching a video-taped "Dateline" News program about the 'Mozart - Effect'. (Part of the free propaganda from the local Steinway dealer!) I never knew the details of the claim before now. According to the 'experts' they presented, this wasn't a 'permanent' effect, only a very temporary one while listening to Mozart (& shortly thereafter). Also, it did not purport to help overall intelligence, only spatial reasoning skills.

I find that interesting for 2 reasons: I have always enjoyed classical music (Mozart in particular) & secondly, on previous IQ tests, the section involving spatial reasoning skills have always been my _lowest_ scoring section. My school grades confirmed this as well. I was an 'A' chemistry student until Organic Chemistry, an 'A' math student until advanced Spatial Geometry. I listen to lots of Mozart, but I guess it hasn't helped me very much!! Maybe I would have scored better had I been listening to Mozart while being tested?? -- I wish it had been an option!

So I guess this is "kinda'" in line with the subject of this thread: What does everyone else know/think about the "Mozart Effect"? Real? More pseudo-science mumbo jumbo? (The ringer on my cell phone is Mozart's 40th symphony... Will I have better spatial reasoning ability while talking on my cell phone? \:D \:D )

I think the best indication of your intelligence is if you do NOT fill in the part that asks for your credit card information at the end. This test is too easy to be for real.

I did the test and got 167. I'd probably be even higher if I had any idea about ounces, nickels, and dimes.

It would surprise me if anyone scored lower than "Borderline Genius". I doubt that this test is as serious as its creator claims it to be.

Well, I haven't taken that IQ test from the website yet, but a long time ago, I took a REAL IQ test from a licensed professional.

148. Not bad. I suck at math though.

To check that site's accuracy, I intentionally gave the wrong answer to all of the questions (at least I think I did  ), told it I took 25 minutes, and still ended up getting a score of 134. Sounds pretty suspicious to me.

Matt:

I think your coming up with that test is a better way to check IQ than anything on the website... brilliantly devious!

Also, the scale they provide is scientifically inaccurate, the standard (there's the rub) IQ scale is set so the average score is 100 +/- 10 points, not 15.

If anyone is seriously interested in testing their IQ, I think you can get a test from Mensa on the web. Then if you're really good, you can even join Mensa and spend your evenings with other people talking about how smart they are!

(Sorry, couldn't resist the slight jab, I have a co-worker who tells everyone ad nauseum about his Mensa membership and how he enjoys going because everyone else is "too stupid to be interesting." What a jerk!)

There are many in this world who seem to confuse intelligence with some sort of achievement or believe that intelligence by itself is some sort of measure of worth. Gifts, intellectual or otherwise, are what you are born with and if you do nothing more with these gifts than to proffer them as evidence of your enhanced worth then you are worth no more than those who achieve the humblest of accomplishments with far less. I have known too many people who seem to think that the world owes them some sort of recognition because of their gifts while accomplishing nothing. Just my .02.

Yeah that is true Bryan.
My friend is like the most gifted musician.
I can play any note on the piano and he can name it instantly, its wierd. Also whenever he hears a tune he can just sit on the piano and play it hands together just like that!

But he is so lazy and he quit playing the piano.

It has always been an observation of mine that the smartest people are not always the ones who succeed in life. It takes a lot more than just mere "smarts".

And my I.Q.? Ask my wife, probably about 50, and dropping fast!
