I will be heading over to a local homeowner today who is trying to sell their Yamaha M500 upright (45inches?) that they purchased new in 2001. They state they never really used it, was always kept in good shape, tuned, regulated. I've seen photos of it and seems to be true, she shows a few scratched areas caused by her kids which i dont mind. She initially purchased the piano in hopes of getting her kids to learn piano but eventually never got them started.

After testing it and confirming all the above, do you think $900[/b] is a reasonable price to purchase, considering I may have to spend $200 on piano move and some extra money perhaps on tune/regulation in near future?
thanks.

it is a Yamaha M500 M , that is what the photo says.

According to the Piano Book supplement, new Yamaha M500's are 5000-6500 depending on the style and wood. At only 6 years old, $900 would be a steal. As always, hiring a tech to give it a good look would be money well spent.

$900 IS a steal on this one. Depending on which M500 Series it is they sold from ~ $2995-$4495.

anyways, i will be heading out to the seller's home tonite and take a look.

i hope this is a dream purchase, i had no idea that this was going to be a steal, i am more excited now to see this piano.
it is not a polished black piano but more a brown/tan wood color piano .

One thing to consider is that you get a small harp (45") which doesnt = much sound. However, its only $900.

Have a tech look at it. Best money you can spend.

M500 is Yamaha's designer console series. You pay an extra premium for the furniture criteria French provincial, Parisian cherry, Georgian mahog. etc. etc. It is a 44" console made in Thomaston Georgia factory A nice piano for $900 though you should find the cabinet appealing to your taste.

i just went to the seller's home and took a look at the piano and played it and inspected it for 15 minutes and was sold on it. basically, it is a brand NEW piano sitting in her home since 2001!!!

she and i discuss shipping and payment...

and then she says that i should get it professionally moved, and i say yes, although i dont mind if a few nicks and scratches occur since it is only $900...

then in horror she stops me and tells me that it is not selling for $900 but for $3500.

we both were laughing so hard , because it was an honest mistake/miscommunication on both our ends.

i saw the ebay auction on it for reserve 900, last 24 hours she pulled it off , and placed it on craiglist. i looked for it and did not find anything under yamaha M500 or $900. strange. found out she listed it for $3500 on craiglist and the reserve to purchase was set to $3500 on ebay auction just i for some reason automatically assumed it was $900 she was selling it for.

all our emails back and forth made no mention of the price! i never stated $900 as i always assumed that was what she was selling for, and she always assumed i was ready to pay $3500.

all in our emails i mentioned ,that if i am liking the piano, i could pay cash right away, she thought that was so fantastic , so now i get it. she thought $3500.

well. what a dream and i woke up. all while i was playing the piano (not the best in action /sound) but still AWESOME STEAL!!

all the time when I said I love it i love it, she was thinking , this guy is going to buy it for $3500!!

wow. we had a good laugh , apologized to each other and thanked her for the opportunity to take a look at the piano. nice folks.

You could buy it new for $3500 from a dealer.
"I would have been laughing as in, you gotta be joking" I was hesitant on $900.
