Damn! This has been a hard day. My keyboard is on the fritz because of a tiny bit of beer I spilled in it last night. It really wasn't much, and it was good beer - Sam Adams, Weiss! You'd think it was some sort of prudish prohibitionist or something the way it has reacted. Anyway, I've been working with a mouse and no keyboard - and periodically hooking up the laptop when I absolutely must have all 26 letters of the alphabet! Do you suppose a good mineral water spritzer bath might revive it?

Yikes, excuse the double post. My laptop has not been too cooperative either, and there have been no spirits involved there!

I think there is something seriously wrong with your keyboard. Sam Adams is always a good choice.

It's very likely you'll have to trash the keyboard. In most instances this isn't a problem as decent keyboards aren't expensive, but once I had to trash a $100 keyboard. I wasn't happy. (You ask is a $100 keyboard worth it? Yes). Anyway, the old fashioned, real IBM keyboards were semi-recoverable (the ones that weighed 5 pounds). New ones, not likely.

If it's Windows you're using, look under Programs->Accessories->Accessibility for something called OnScreen Keyboard. I think sometimes it's called MouseKeys. Might get you by until you can get to the store.

Gryphon, I have fond memories of the those old IBM keyboards. Each key was shaped aluminum, and the whole thing could take a direct hit from multiple cups of coffee. Might make a decent personal defense tool in a pinch.

Don't worry - things will be fine. I thought you spilled beer on your piano.

It's also possible to fry out the keyboard processor on the motherboard. Then you get to not only buy a new keyboard, but a new motherboard or computer as well! eek

I highly recommend tossing the damp keyboard and buy a new one before more damage is done.

Oh, you people! I can't believe you thought I spilled beer on my piano! I NEVER drink and play. Plus, I would have put this in the Piano Room had that been the case! wink

Hopefully, my new keyboard will arrive today. I really did want a black one to match my Dell anyway.

John,Fezziweg is nice, but doesn't beat the Weiss! I'll lift my bottle to you tonight.

Hey, my new keyboard is great! Delivery from PCConnection in less THAN 24 hours! (Local Staples and Office Max did not have ergo boards - how tOOOtally, non-PC). And, now I have a black beauty, Belkin, slick keyboard set-up. I may not like to do my Chopin on ebony, but my touch-typing - now that's a horse of another color! I encourage you all - spill a little of that bev or pivo and splurge. It may not be a whole computer system, but it can make you feel like a million dollars! cool
