I think it's a universal fear that something like this could happen to you or me:
MAN FOUND DEAD IN HIS BED AFTER TWO YEARS
WINNIPEG (CP) -- His telephone number was still listed in the telephone directory and his condominium fees and bills were automatically being withdrawn from his bank account
No one knew Jim Sulkers had died in his bed almost two years ago
Sulkers's remains were discovered Wednesday
Manitoba's chief medical examiner, Dr. Thambirajah Balachandra, determined the man died of natural causes. He said a newspaper dated Nov. 21, 2002, was found in the man's apartment and a wall calendar was opened to November 2002.

There was a similar case around here that involved a woman that had been dead since 1986. They thought the building was vacant and were preparing for demolition.

But in an apartment? How could the - [Cindy's "erm"] - smell go unnoticed by the other tenants.
Those were my thoughts too. You'd think someone would have said,"Gee I haven't seen Mr Sulkers in 4A in an awfully long time..." Cathy

A close friend of mine just retired from the Calgary Fire Dept after 35 years of service. Sadly similar events occur more often than what we may think. He should know, he was often the first person to break down the door and find the remains.
